Bangladesh has over 200gbps bandwidth of which only 33% is consumed by domestic demands, and exports 10gbps bandwidth to India.
A Singaporean Telecommunication Company is working to sell the unutilised bandwidth with five East Asian countries through undersea cable for bandwidth sharing.
Confirming the news, Monwar Hossain, managing director of the state-owned Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL), said Singaporean company Blueberry Telecom has submitted a proposal in this regard to the government.
BSCCL is assigned to manage country’s bandwidth through the undersea cable.
In the proposal, Blueberry has laid out plans to sell the bandwidth to Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Indonesia.
“Myanmar is a big potential market for Bangladesh’s unutilised bandwidth,” he said.
He said a delegation from Blueberry met with BTRC high officials on Thursday to discuss about the legal issues for the connectivity.
Currently, Bangladesh is exporting 10gbps bandwidth to Indian State of Tripura in return for annual payment of Tk9.6cr.
Bangladesh has now over 200gbps bandwidth and after meeting the domestic demand, it has the capacity to export bandwidth up to 50gbps. Bangladesh is consuming only 33% of the total bandwidth currently.
Bangladesh will be connected with second undersea cable early next year to get another 1320gbps bandwidth.
