PM inaugurates Padma Bridge construction, river training works

The China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Corporation was appointed for the construction of the main bridge, while China’s Sinohydro Corporation for the river training.

Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Korea Expressway Corporation and Associates are supervising the bridge construction.

Assuming office in 1996, the Awami League government initiated the project in 1998 for the first time. After returning to power in 2009, it revived the initiative. Though the World Bank initially proposed funding much of the project, Bangladesh withdrew the funding request after the global lender raised a stink over alleged corruption.

In 2014, the government signed contracts with the two Chinese companies for the construction of the main bridge and the river training work.

they declared it will be finish by 2018 december . right before the new election , so its kinda political things too order to earn more people support

You really think they will hold a fair election! It will be just eye watering election like the last one. They still haven't gotten the full funds for the project and will suffer from funds shortages.

It was a challanges when WB and other stop funding but current govt. Knew it canbe a Trump card for next election and decided to go ahead with own fund. It seems from current momentum this bridge which was long dream for this area going to fulfill even though it can take one two year more.

Because of Hasina projects like this are taking place.All Khaleda Zia does is shake legs and buy private apartments in Malaysia.Khaleda even cancelled our mig-29 contract!
