US Ambassador in Dhaka Dan Mozena on Saturday said Bangladesh should be the world’s largest readymade garment exporter.

‘Bangladesh could be and should be the world’s largest readymade garment exporter, the world’s largest household textiles exporter and a major global player in building freighters, in information technology, in producing pharmaceuticals, in manufacturing finished leather goods, in exporting seafood, in producing and processing silk, in finding new uses for the fiber of tomorrow jute… and the list goes on and on,’ he said.

He was addressing the closing ceremony of 2012 Bangladesh Youth Leadership Centre youth Leadership Summit at Bashundhara Convention Centre in the city.

Terming Bangladesh a truly blessed country, Mozena said, ‘I’m certain… the future of Bangladesh is bright. I see the teachers, businessmen, political leaders, traders, academics, civil servants, doctors, nurses, builders of tomorrow… I see the future of Bangladesh.’

The US envoy said building ‘the New Bangladesh, the Golden Bangladesh, the Middle-income Bangladesh’ would not be an easy task though.

The Golden Bangladesh can be a reality within a decade or two as its people are energetic, dynamic, creative, entrepreneurial, generous, and resilient, he added.

‘But this Golden Bangladesh will not just happen… Someone will [have to] make it happen… That someone is you, you individually as a bright, educated, articulate, committed person, you’ll build the Golden Bangladesh,’ he told his young audience.

Appreciating the younger generation, he said, ‘You, together, through organisations such as the Bangladesh Youth Leadership Center, will build the Golden Bangladesh. America is your partner in this task.’

Mozena said in a few months they would open their new Edward M Kennedy Center for Public Service and the Arts in Dhanmondi in collaboration with the Liberation War Museum.
The Center will be a new platform for engaging the youth, building on the rich legacy of service in Bangladesh and America, he hoped.

US ambassador is doing hypocratic cheerleading for Bangladeshi yet US refused to provide duty free access for Bangladeshi garments for last 20 years. But offcource there is gullible class in Bangladesh to fall for empty US rhetoric.

And that empty US rhetoric seems to be directed to counter effect from goodwill and investment from China.
