The first consignment left Dhaka for Thimphu on Thursday
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent two consignments of emergency medicines to Bhutan for the welfare of its senior citizens in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
Senior Information Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md. Tohidul Islam confirmed the matter on Thursday.
The medicines include 10 lakh units of Multi-Vitamin Bextram Gold manufactured by Beximco Pharma and 5 lakh units of Vitamin C Ceevit manufactured by Square Pharma.
The first consignment left Dhaka for Thimphu earlier today by road. It will likely reach Burimari Border Port in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur in the afternoon.
The 2nd consignment is likely to reach the border port by Sunday.
It is worth noting that Bangladesh had earlier sent emergency medical equipment, including hand sanitizers, to Bhutan.
Tohidul said that the premier sent the medicines from her Relief and Welfare Fund at the request of the King of Bhutan as a gesture of goodwill towards the neighboring country.
Bangladesh and Bhutan historically share great relations; Bhutan was the first country to recognize Bangladesh as an independent state after the liberation war in 1971.
The coronavirus pandemic has globally infected 2,092,512 people and killed 135,239 people.
