Bangladesh Reacts to Amit Shah’s ‘Termite’ Comment, Says he is Not Qualified to Talk on Delhi-Dhaka Relations

New Delhi: A day after BJP chief Amit Shah spoke at length about Bangladeshi infiltrators and called them ‘termites’ during a rally, Bangladesh has called it an ‘unwanted remark’, said media reports on Monday. Bangladesh Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu spoke to Indian media outlets and said Shah was not qualified to speak on the bilateral ties between India and Bangladesh. He said Shah’s comments could not be seen as the official stand of the Government of India. He added that India’s official position had been conveyed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Inu refused to be drawn into the controversial NRC issue and said it was an ‘internal matter’ of India. While addressing a mega rally in Delhi on Sunday, Shah had said that his party will seek to identify illegal immigrants living in the country if it came to power after the Lok Sabha polls. He said that illegal (Bangladeshi) infiltrators were also causing trouble in the national capital, and likened them to termites so action against them should not bother anyone.

“After forming government in 2019, the BJP will undertake a nationwide identification of illegal infiltrators living in the country,” he had said. There has been a demand from many BJP leaders that an NRC-like exercise be undertaken in the rest of the country to identify illegal immigrants.

“The illegal infiltrators are acting like termites in this country. They are also causing problems in Delhi. Action against them should not worry any patriot,” he had added.

East Pakistan fought with West Pakistan because they said we were imposing URDU on them and they got their Independence. Now all of Bangladesh can speak and understand HINDI.

So why is Bangladesh bothered by such a small statement from their true masters?

Mr. Shah was not qualified to speak on India-Bangladesh relationship, says Bangladesh Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu.
By describing Bangladeshis as ‘termites’ and accusing them of ‘infiltrating’ India, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah has made an ‘unwanted’ remark, a senior minister of the Government of Bangaldesh has said.

Speaking to The Hindu, Minister of Information Hasanul Haq Inu said Mr. Shah was not qualified to speak on India-Bangladesh relationship and that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assured Dhaka that people excluded from Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise would not be sent to Bangladesh.

    ‘Not official statement’
“Amit Shah has made an unwanted remark by describing Bangladeshis as termites. We in Dhaka do not give any importance to his statement as it does not carry the gravity of an official statement of India. We have maintained that the NRC process in Assam and the welfare of the Bengali-speaking citizens of India are internal issues of India,” Mr. Inu said, explaining that India’s official position has been conveyed by Mr. Rajnath Singh already.

The senior Bangladesh minister’s response came after Mr Shah, during a rally in Sawai Madhopur’s Gangapur on Saturday, alleged that Bangladeshi citizens had infiltrated India and said, “the infiltrators have eaten our country like termites.” He repeated the remarks in Delhi on Sunday and promised that if re-elected the BJP would carry out a countrywide exercise to identify illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and send them back.

Responding to Mr. Shah’s remarks, the Minister, a veteran of the 1971 War of Liberation, said the BJP chief is perhaps uninformed about the dialogue that India and Bangladesh have held at the official level on the NRC in Assam.

“Minister of Home Affairs of India Rajnath Singh as well as Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, based in Dhaka, have assured us that the NRC process of Assam is an internal issue of India and that not a single Bengali-speaking person will be sent to Bangladesh,” Mr. Inu said.

Pathetic to see this mukti Bahni man speaking on behalf of India in this day and age. Let Indian government explain their stance on this issue attributed to a senior BJP leader.

you know, in all my travels I have met many Bangladeshi brothers and one thing that occurred to me was.... 90% of them could speak Urdu/Hindi.
Now this is before I joined PDF and became hateful, but even then it occurred to me that they fought a war for their language, then just decided to learn it any ways.

Still doesn't make any sense to me.
Can Bangladeshis just forget how to speak Urdu/Hindi please.

Same here, I've met many Bangladeshi people and all of them could speak Hindi/Urdu.
they fought a war for their language, then just decided to learn it any ways.

Still doesn't make any sense to me.
They were brainwashed by Indians and they fell into that trap cause people like Bhutto on our side were more interested to rule the country than to save it.
Like this Pashteen thing, but this time thank Allah that we had some sane minds among us who acted upon it and killed the propaganda before it could rise.
If it was left again to people like Nawaz and Zardari this would have gotten out of hand.

That's true. We helped them in getting independence. They should have shaped their country as they like. There is no jobs here, our economy is in shambles, their per capita income is very high (all according to PDF Pakistanis and Bangladeshis). So why do they come here? Why not feel insulted by the above remarks and return to their country?

Don't compare this to what some said in US or UK....:D

"Unwarranted". Somebody insults you and that's the best you can come up with? No wonder Myanmar messes with Bangladesh. This government would roll over to Bhutan as well!

If we react to every BJP leader who talks crap, it would be the full time job of GOB

BJP feeds 3rd rate BS to their ignorant, insecure, impoverished right wing supporters - let them believe whatever helps them sleep at night.

The Indian folks think that all BD folks are like indebted to them for being alive!!!! Hence, this overflow of love...

BD is like Sita, who was recaptured from the clutches of Ravana by Ram - a BJP leader

Anyway, being equated to a termite is too much!!! What were the BD folks thinking when Gen Niazi, the lone Muslim commander, was signing on that surrener paper being surrounded by the Sikhs, Jew, Hindu, Christian etc. officers of the Indian Army????? Kendine dushen a'lamaz (he who gets stumbled by himself shouldn't cry)....
