Bangladesh ‘joins’ Riyadh-based anti-terrorism coalition

Good with your Arab friends.

One thing for sure, we won't be supporting KSA against Iran or send foot soldiers to fight KSA's wars.

Being slaves of fat Arab sheikhs is not so popular among BD Muslims, except for a tiny wahabbi minority.

.
We should only be apart of this symbolically, we shouldn't be involved in their ever so frequent conflicts in the ME.

Saudi will get destroyed in 5 days if they fight against Iran. :)

I hope Bangladesh keep distance between itself and Saudi to prevent permeating wahhabism in Bangladesh.

It's about time the concept of Ummah, that we keep hearing time and again, is put to good use.

1. This is a confusing Coalition, don't know full agenda
2. The decision is taken solely by Government, we have no idea until now

You are not the only person in that predicament!
Even the guys in Riyadh have no idea, this just to desperately drum up some support for the Saudi misadventures.

Bangladesh wants to side with KSA and GCC for economic and financial reasons. In this coalition they will be less active than a frog in hibernation.

Ahhh..... then you better remember the old sub-continental saying: "In the Battle between the Crocodiles, it is always the Frogs that get eaten up" !!! :P

Bangladesh in 34-state Islamic military alliance

Bangladesh has joined a Saudi Arabia-based 34-state Islamic military coalition to combat terrorism, according to a joint statement published on state news agency SPA.

"The countries here mentioned have decided on the formation of a military alliance led by Saudi Arabia to fight terrorism, with a joint operations center based in Riyadh to coordinate and support military operations," the statement said today.

A long list of Arab countries such as Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, together with Islamic countries Turkey, Malaysia, Pakistan and Gulf Arab and African states were mentioned.

The announcement cited "a duty to protect the Islamic nation from the evils of all terrorist groups and organizations whatever their sect and name which wreak death and corruption on earth and aim to terrorize the innocent."

Shi'ite Muslim Iran, Sunni Saudi Arabia's arch rival for influence in the Arab world, was absent from the states named as participants, as proxy conflicts between the two regional powers rage from Syria to Yemen.

The United States has been increasingly outspoken about its view that Gulf Arab states should do more to aid the military campaign against the Islamic State militant group based in Iraq and Syria.

In a rare press conference, 30-year-old deputy crown prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman told reporters on Tuesday that the campaign would "coordinate" efforts to fight terrorism in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan, but offered few concrete indications of how military efforts might proceed.

"There will be international coordination with major powers and international organizations ... in terms of operations in Syria and Iraq. We can't undertake these operations without coordinating with legitimacy in this place and the international community," bin Salman said without elaborating.

Asked if the new alliance would focus just on Islamic State, bin Salman said it would confront not only that group but "any terrorist organization that appears in front of us."

Saudi Arabia and its Gulf Arab neighbors have been locked in nine months of warfare with Iran-allied rebels in neighboring Yemen, launching hundreds of air strikes there.

Especially after a rash of attacks on Western targets claimed by Islamic State in recent months, the United States has increasingly said it thinks that firepower would better be used against IS.

As a ceasefire is set to take hold in Yemen on Tuesday alongside United Nations-backed peace talks, Riyadh's announcement may signal a desire to shift its attention back toward the conflicts north of its borders.

Islamic State has pledged to overthrow the monarchies of the Gulf and have mounted a series of attacks on Shi'ite Muslim mosques and security forces in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

The list of 34 members: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Gabon, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Palestinians, Qatar, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, BBC Online adds.

Bangladesh has no capability, training, equipment or experience to fight "terror". Bangladesh is trained more for a conventional war, even then it lags behind most countries. The best Bangladesh can do is provide naval and air support to this new "alliance".

Is this like NATO where coalition comes for help in case of war?
We dont know much information yet, but it will most likely evolve into a NATO or even EU like coalition.

If the Pakistanis, who talk so much about Ummah , don't want to die fighting Saudi Wars, why are the Bangladeshis so willing
This isnt Saudi Arabia's war, this is the world's war.

No-one can touch Bangladesh now....Myanmar beware.....:partay:
What the hell is a country 1/4 the size of Bangladesh in GDP going to do to BD? Mynamar is shit compared to BD.

if you talk about inside BD, then RAB and SWAT teams are enough, if talk about SF of Armed forces then you have no idea what are talking about

Sounds strange..But these are the same people who are saying to fight against terrorist who once upon a time created, supported and used as the proxyidifferent terror groups such as ALQEDA, Talibs,LeT,ISIS and many more...
I think some one should ask Saudi Kingdom about what defined as terrorism to them?...Is Taliban who are fighting against Afgan Gov is a terrorist or Hamas is a terrorist or only Iran backed groups are terrorist and those groups backed by Saudis are not?....

Basically Gulf is getting scared with the relief of sanctions to Iran so they are using political tool to expand their clout to different Muslim countries...

At least we dont need Pakistan or any other countries help to save ourselves from non state actors. What do you say, do you need our help to fight in Baluchistan and NWFP?

This development is interesting and I will go ahead and make a prediction. It would FAIL to achieve it's stated objectives.

I will be happy if I am wrong though :)
See all this about is that al saud want to cheat the world to avoid to stave off the the fingers that point towards them as a terrorism supporter now people talk about the saudi coalition to fight terrorism while they are the one who created it feed it and defend it by claiming they are moderate and non moderate.

The thing is after one or two days of a german representative accused alsaud with supporting extremism!!.

SURPRISE IN BANGLADESH

Talking to The Daily Star yesterday, former top diplomats, military experts and academicians have expressed their surprises about Dhaka's joining in Saudi-led alliance without any discussion at home.

Several of them, wishing not to be named, said that they came to know about it from media reports, which are also confusing.

“We had never joined in any alliance going beyond UN mandate. Our foreign policy is clear about and we will not join any alliance without UN mandate,” said a former top diplomat wishing not to be named.

On Bangladesh's positive response to Saudi-led initiative, he said there could have been wide range of discussion within Bangladesh before joining any such alliance. “The debate could have been in parliament, at civil society level or in any wider national platform.”

The retired diplomat, who held vital positions at home and abroad, said Bangladesh even could have discussed with the like-minded or friendly countries before making any decision.

Defence expert Shahedul Anam Khan said though it's a positive move as Islamic countries have felt to forge an alliance or centre to fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

“But it's not at all clear how it will function, what are the terms and condition, time-frame of the initiative, what will be the task of it, what will be the structure of it.”

Before joining any such centre or alliance, Bangladesh must be clear about the structure, objective and all other aspects, he added.
