Bangladesh has welcomed Saudi Arabia’s proposal to form a joint working group with Turkey to investigate the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul.

“We hope this joint investigation will help in removing all speculations,” Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali said replying to a question on Monday at a briefing ahead of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Saudi visit from Tuesday.

He said Bangladesh is following the news of the disappearance. “Bangladesh welcomes Saudi Arabia’s proposal to form a joint working group with Turkey to investigate the incident”.

Turkey believes Khashoggi was deliberately killed in the Saudi consulate and his body was removed on Oct 2. Riyadh has rejected the claims.

Khashoggi entered the consulate to collect some papers before his forthcoming marriage with his fiancée waiting outside. But he never emerged.

US President Donald Trump threatened "severe punishment" for Riyadh if it turned out Khashoggi, a prominent critic of Saudi authorities and a legal resident of the United States, was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Saudi Arabia rejected threats to punish it over the disappearance, saying the kingdom would retaliate against any sanctions with tougher measures.

Will an uncompromising fight against RAW be possible in a already effed up country?

Guess, this issue would also come up during Hasina's meeting with MBS as the reporters asked about it.

Govt. looks to be cozying up with KSA but we need to remain completely neutral since Turkey has been supporting Bangladesh on some crucial issues, the Rohingya crisis for example.

@Śakra What an over-inflated opinion they hold of themselves

Its a standard polity reply given by most countries. Pakistan i believe also said the same which frankly holds the same weight as that of Bangladesh in this case.
