Bangladesh building monument for Indian martyrs of Liberation War

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said Bangladesh is constructing monuments in memory of the martyrs of Indian allied forces in the 1971 Liberation War on the occasion of the 50 years of independence.

He said this when outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das paid her farewell call on him at his ministry office here. Liberation War Affairs Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh was present on the occasion.

They discussed Bangladesh India relations, Bangladesh Liberation War and bilateral issues.

They hoped that relations between the two neighboring countries would be stronger further in the days to come.

The minister recalled with gratitude the cooperation of Indian government and its people extended to Bangladesh during the Liberation War.

The Indian high commissioner said Bangladesh and India are tested friends. Some people are out to spread misleading information purposely to worsen the relations between the two next-door neighbours but the Bangladesh-India ties are not so fragile, she said.

Riva said the two countries have done many bilateral works in the last several years as Bangladesh and India are working as development partners while enclaves, maritime boundary and other issues have also been resolved during that period.

The Indian envoy lauded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership in the country’s unprecedented development and women empowerment.

She requested the minister for taking up initiatives for translating the books on the Liberation War in Hindi.

Riva expressed her country’s willingness to become a part of golden jubilee celebration of Bangladesh’s independence in 2021 with its people.

Mozammel Haque congratulated Riva on her next posting as the secretary of Indian External Affairs Ministry and extended best wishes to her, saying the relations between the two nations will reach a different dimension during her tenure as the external affairs secretary.

I have the one stop solution to foster better relations between BD and PAK.

Elect a Bengali as PM

:enjoy:
Pakistan had Bengali PMs... in a Country like Pakistan everything is possible :D

Pakistan and Bangladesh must overcome their past and forgive each other. The Euros fought world wars (and many wars before that) against each other and now they are best friends. We as Muslims can do this too!

This is a last ditch effort by Indians to try to use the same '71 card again and again. BD has moved on, yet India desperately pleads "Please never forget '71."

I am reminded when Taliban achieved victory in Afghanistan, Indians were sent packing. The look on their faces told the full story.

In sha Allah, they and their agents in BD will leave the same way.

They still have a "liberation war affairs ministry"

I dont think they are over it either.

Hasina, no. She worships 1971 as God.

BD people, by large, want better ties with Pakistan, same for their military.

However, I agree, don't know how amicable it can be. It is a different sort of soil in BD, we don't share much cultural similarity (like we do with Afghanistan and Turks for example.)

It will always be difficult to portray Pakistani mindset to them, due to decades of hostility, partially cultivated by Indians.

Let me guess, we should bulldoze the war monuments too because they hurt your feelings and remind you of something you don't want to recall ?

Erase the war from our history books ?

Call it 'Fall of so and so' in an attempt to save face ?

Shall we demolish the graves while we're at it ?

Slap those who lost loved ones ? Brand them delusional ? Tell them that their loved ones never existed ?

We have gotten over the war, it's Pakistanis who can't get over the bitter memory of defeat.

Why else would you cry foul everytime a Jamati is sent to meet his maker ?

Hell, Islamabad cries when normal jamatis who have nothing to do with the war are hanged.

Get your priorities straight.

We can have whatever ministry we want, we can hang whoever we want; they're our citizens not yours.

We DON'T comment about Pakistan's internal affairs and conflicts, perhaps you can meet us half way for once ?

We DON'T teach our kids to hate Pakistanis.

We DON'T hate the Pakistanis of today's generation.

We DON'T hate the Pakistan of today.

We DON'T always agree with Hasina.

We can have better relations, only WHEN Pakistanis cease to mock our Sovereignty and hard earned freedom by calling us "puppets" of a third country.

Better relations with Pakistan isn't some gold mine for us. We are not desperate.

We will not forget, but we will forgive.

We are all for better relations because the Pakistan of today is just another country for us.

Do you want better relations with us ?

You do but why ?

If it is to stick it to India, then bye bye, we don't want to be a pawn in this vile India Vs Pakistan game.

However, If you want better relations with us for any reason other than the one above, then we will welcome you with open arms.

Bangalis are a pragmatic people, never forget this.

Relations will improve, Imran Khan seems to be a level headed pragmatist, Dhaka will appreciate this.

People to People contact is built on mutual respect and understanding, so maybe let's respect each other ?

We are ready, question is are you ?

Thinking you're ready isn't the same thing, If the posts on PDF are anything to go by, the Pakistani Populace needs to be a little more considerate and respectful.

Here's to hoping relations improve, on the foundation of mutual respect and understanding.

Good day to you and No, I do not despise Pakistan, If you look closely the anger of Bangladeshis is directed elsewhere and has been for decades.

Whether or not Bangladesh builds a monument honoring Indian soldiers is immaterial. Events of 1971 are burned into history: that Pakistan was broken in two and a new country born, all with the help of India. And every year, Pakistanis are reminded of this fact, knowing full well it could have been avoided.

I am reminded when Taliban achieved victory in Afghanistan, Indians were sent packing. The look on their faces told the full story.

Good. I hope this will end Pakistan's endless complaints about India using Afghanistan as a terrorism launching pad. If there's a terrorist attack in Pakistan in the future, please blame someone else.
