Featured Bangladesh building monument for Indian martyrs of Liberation War

Actually no Bengali remember the old stuffs other than some political criminals who get benefit politically for this issue .Soon they will be obsolete too. Just wait few more years .
no bro, we are gonna remember it, with pride and dignity. this is what will inspire us through generations. it is a reality check for our enemies.

at the same time, we are going to be rational about this. remember, 1971 happened, so that we march forward, this is not to drag us down. even if marching forward means good relationship with pakistan, so be it.

whatever good for Bangladehs, with 1971 spirit; embrace it.

We remember '71 not out of spite for Pakistan, No.

We remember '71 as an affirmation to the fact then when we Bengalis set our minds to something; We can indeed get it done.

We are not as hopeless, as we sometimes seem to be.

We must harness this energy, this sheer force of national identity, strength and aspirations, for when we do so, nothing is impossible.

'71 was the physical manifestation of this will, the will of the Bengalis.

And so we will remember it and we will be wise to channel this will in the most efficient manner.

Brother, we must remember it as America remember the heroes of their independence . But look at them ,America and UK are best friends .And their freedom fight against British empire doesn't stop Americans to become the best friend of UK .
But these sanghis and their sidekicks in Bangladesh ( Chetona khor aka minority fanatic group in AL) Always rant about 1971 and use it as political tool . It's nothing but creating division .

Thankfully if you look carefully even Hasina isn't using 1971 nowadays . But the chetona gang knows no bound .

Yes I agree here . Exactly I wanted to say this when replied to the Indian guy .

Bangladesh should build a monument for 100k-200k Bangladeshi civilians killed by collateral damage from Indian military bombardments. Bangladesh's official stats have collateral damage deaths from Indian bombardment at 0. This is complete rubbish. Americans used nothing but guided munitions in Iraq and still killed 100k to 500k Iraqi civilians. Indian military used no guided munitions during the 1971 war. Its sad that the Bangladesh government is hiding the truth of collateral damage deaths from its own people.

first let us get out of Indian shadow.
To be honest by then, these monuments won't matter much. so why build another one?

etara re age deiktam, Danor season aile, kaci-Jhuri loi bazarot boi thaiktu, kam goribelli.
:)

to be honest, when i was kid; i used to mock Chinese-Japanese language, making weird facial expression and noise, now i understand that's racist. so i regret doing that. i just thought it was funny at that time.

and guess what, i am planning to learn Japanese now just out of interest in their culture.
Maybe they will understand it one day.

AND know that when it comes to uniqueness, we are on whole another level. learning Chittainga is no easy feat.

Probably impossible to master, unless you spend decades in Chittagong with the sole intention of listening to natives speak.

It's a spoken language with no existing writing system; not anymore anyway, moreover the grammatical rules, especially the verb 'cases' are not well demarcated.

There is no guidebook to refer to, indeed there is no handbook with the grammatical rules jotted down.

We speak it merely from memory and habit, wonder how many generations have learnt to speak it just by hearing their parents speak...

Atleast a couple centuries, wonder how long it'll last.

We should do our bit for it, in our lifetimes; help proliferate it.

agreed.
there are figures that contributed in mainstream Bangla literature from Chittagong. I wish at least they gave their own dialect a thought.

By the way, when it comes to written form, which alphabet you think gonna work best and get the pronunciation right?

I reckon most people here are missing the point. Given the recent fluttering in India due to the BD-Pak diplomatic talk, this is just a mere 'chill buddy' gesture towards them, just to show that our govt is still aligned with the 'Supapawa'. Nothing more.

If this was a genuine gesture in any sense, why wasn't it done earlier when relations were at peak? Or at a particular occasion? Why only when Riva Ganguly is leaving? It is simple. To ensure Ganguly doesn't cry back and complain in Delhi. I doubt this will even materialize.
Awami govt. is talking about this monument for the last 10 years. When it will get built, nobody can say surely. To the Indians, who are getting overwhelmed by the '' gesture'' of Hasina govt., this monument is supposed to be built in Akhaura, NOT in Dhaka. Akhaura is a small town at the border of India, opposite to the Indian city of Agartala. So you can guess, this monument would not be a prominent landmark in Bangladesh, most probably local people will use it as their cow grazing land after Hasina govt. is gone or even before that while she is still in power, if not properly maintained and preserved. The track record of Bangladeshi govt. to care for the remote monuments is not very praiseworthy.

Well, that's hard to say, we'd need a linguist to look into the language and then look into the various scripts available in the neighbourhood.

It definitely isn't Bengali script.

I believe Latin with accents and umlauts (üö) will work fine, even more so because everyone already knows the Latin alphabets.

What do you think ?
