Bangladesh Army chief to review NDA passing out parade in India
General Mohammed Abdul Mubeen, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Bangladesh Army will be reviewing the Passing out Parade (PoP) of the National Defence Academy (NDA).
Interestingly, this is the 40th year of the 1971 War of Liberation of Bangladesh.
In June, Indian Army Chief General V K Singh had visited Bangladesh and reviewed the passing out parade of Bangladesh Military Academy.
General Mubeen will be the third foreign Reviewing Officer in the history of the NDA after Chinese Prime Minister Chou- En-Lai and General Pyar Jung Thapa, COAS, Royal Nepal Army who reviewed the 11 th and 107 th course of the NDA respectively in the years 1956 and 2004.
As many as 318 cadets of the 121st course of the NDA will be passing out of the academy on November 29. They had commenced their training on December 28, 2008.
It is a great thing that the Bangladeshi Army Chief will be reviewing the NDA parade. Having a reviewing officer from another country is always good, said Lt Gen Jatinder Singh, Commandant, NDA. Singh along with Air Vice Marshal Ajit Bhonsle, deputy commandant, NDA, was addressing a press conference at the Sudan Block ahead of the passing out parade event.
The cadets passing out of the academy include 215 cadets from the Army, 41 from Navy and 62 from the Air Force.
The Army cadets also include 16 cadets from friendly countries including Bhutan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Maldives.
Some of the other functions which will be taking place along with the passing out parade include NDA expo on November 26 followed by convocation ceremony and tattoo show on November 28. Jaspal Singh, vice chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala will be the chief guest of the convocation ceremony.
Ahead of the ceremony, the security around the NDA campus is likely to be strengthened further. While a newly constructed Sudan- block-like-looking gate will welcome the guests on Pashan side, some of the other ongoing preparations include sanctioning of four additional Defence Service Corps (DSC) platoons, three of which are expected to arrive by December. Digital surveillance cameras with night recording facilities have also been installed in and around the campus. Also, the construction of the 16 th squadron has been approved and the work is expected to be completed in two years. As reported by The Indian Express, the 16 th squadron has been named Panthers.
Meanwhile, on being asked about the ongoing conflict of interest surrounding the blocking of road between Chandni Chowk and the academy by NDA, Lt Gen Singh refrained from commenting saying the matter is subjudice. The NDA had blocked the road between Chandni Chowk and the Pashan gate of the academy from September 22 citing security issues.
