. . . . .
Maybe, give us a part of that humongous budget. :D
Pakistan gets $300 million donation every year from SA. BD should vie for arms market there. There has already been an understanding that BD military will assist SA in case the two Holy Cities are (read SA itself) under attack from 3rd parties (read Iran). I believe, BA can develop/improve its arms manufacturing industry with SA assistance.

Bangladesh has nothing to offer SA militarily other than people. i.e. cannon fodder.

I see this matter in different ways.We sent 1 brigade troops in 1st gulf war in Saudi Arabia and it helped us enormously in subsequent years. Our relation with countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other gulf countries deepened a lot. And we got benefit in form of man power export, aid money from the gulf, peace keeper deployment in Kuwait etc.On the other hands, Yemen, Jordan and Palestine supported Iraq, and suffered heavily. They faced expulsion of their workers, cut of aid and many other things.Sending troops for the 'defence of the two holy mosque' is a prestigious matter and will enhance the image of Bangladesh around the muslim world.

Yes that’s true what you have written.

But the reality of the situation is that Bangladesh is a poor country with extremely limited military capability.

You want to enhance “military cooperation” or whatever that really means with SA to gain favor with the gulf Arabs.

You must be out of your mind if you think the GCC militaries have any shred of respect for Bangladeshi military prowess.

Understand this, I have a tremendous respect for the capabilities of the Bengali people.

Look, I’m Bengali. And we as a people have the capability to be a cultured, intellectual, humanistic people.

I believe it’s inherent in our nature.

We also have the qualities of being tremendously corrupt, lazy and selfish.

What I wish for Bangladesh as a nation is to first develop some self respect.

This Rohingya debacle exposed a lot of things which I hope was a lesson for the leadership of the nation.

Build up your economy, develop your infrastructure, and absoultey enhance military capabilities.

It is shameful, absolutely shameful how Myanmar has humiliated Bangladesh.

There is no reason for Bangladesh to be militarily weak. Bengalis are brave, innovative and resourceful.

Pilots like Saiful Azam are waiting to be trained in Bangladesh.

Militarily speaking, inshAllah in 10-15 years, perhaps Bangladesh can achieve a credible conventional military capability if it plays its cards right and THEN we can talk about contributing something appreciable to the defense of the holy cities.

Countries like Turkey, Pakistan, SA and Iran are in a different league in terms of military capability.

If and when Bangladesh gets anywhere near there, perhaps there can be a realistic discussion about “military cooperation”.

They have Chinese platforms, bd should try to get investment for future frigate designs that will be indigenous, try and sell them some... will open up market to UAE, Kuwait and if the situation is stable, sell Qatar

What a completely strange post...

BD should stay out of the GCC squabbles if at all feasible.... if not chuck our lot in with the Saudis.

BD can offer manpower to the Saudis. This is no small matter as SA requires manpower.

BD can additionally offer other services such as disaster management techniques, conflict resolution approaches, etc.

BD-SA military contact is strong.... BD military forces to date is clearing mines from the gulf war in Kewait/SA border.

But I agree with Avicenna BD does not have that much to offer. SA as a weapon and technology importer has not much to offer us either.

All mines have been cleared by 2012... including swooping the areas where mines were found, which was under US, UK jurisdiction.

No you didnt.

Bangladesh army was part of peacekeeping forces in Kuwait for de-mining Operations.. lead by Pak.

While 75,000 Pak troops were in KSA under a defence pact.

Pak also sells hundreds of millions of dollars worth equipment to KSA alone.

POF alone sold 92 milloon dollar worth weapons n ammunition in 2016 to KSA.

As for BD.. good idea.. but unfortunately BD doesnt produce anything other than Chinese rifles under license..
