Dhaka Captain Abdul Majed, a convicted killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was arrested early Tuesday, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan said.

Majed was arrested from the capital’s Mirpur area, he said.

Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) arrested Majed around 3:30am.

He was sent to jail by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge AM Julfikar Hayat.

On August 15, 1975, Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu and most of his family members were assassinated by a cabal of military men.

Eighteen members of his family including Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, three sons -- Captain Sheikh Kamal, Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal and 10-year-old Sheikh Russel, two daughters-in-law Sultana Kamal and Rosy Jamal, brother Sheikh Naser, peasant leader Abdur Rab Serniabat, youth leader Sheikh Fazlul Haq Moni and his wife Arzu Moni, Baby Serniabat, Sukanta Babu, Arif and Abdul Nayeem Khan Rintu, were, among others, killed on that fateful night.

Military Secretary Brigadier General Jamil was also killed. Several members of a family in the capital’s Mohammadpur area were also killed by artillery shells fired by the killers on the same day.

Five killers of Bangabandhu -- Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Bazlul Huda, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and Mohiuddin Ahmed -- were hanged in January 2010.

Another killer Aziz Pasha met the natural death in Zimbabwe in 2001.

On November 19, 2009, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty of 12 convicted former army officers for the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members.

The six fugitive killers are former Lt Col Khandaker Abdur Rashid, SHBM Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Rashed Chowdhury, former captain Abdul Majed and Risaldar Moslehuddin.

Of them, the government knew the whereabouts of SHBM Noor Chowdhury, Rashed Chowdhury and Risaldar Moslehuddin while was not sure about the other three fugitives -- Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Shariful Haque Dalim and Abdul Majed.

Noor Chowdhury has been living in Canada while Rashed Chowdhury in the USA, said the government sources.

Star Online Report

Abdul Majed, convicted killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was hiding in India's Kolkata for about 23 years before arriving in the country recently.

"Majed said he arrived in the country on March 15 or 16 from Kolkata. He claimed that he was hiding there for about 23 years," Hemayet Uddin Khan, assistant public prosecutor, who talked to him before the court proceeding started today, told The Daily Star.

The self-declared killer claimed that he was not involved in killing Bangabandhu, Hemayet said.

But when the prosecutor asked about his self-declaration after the brutal murders, he kept mum.

Captain Majed was sent to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj today hours after he was arrested in Dhaka.

They were sacked lieutenant colonels Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and Mohiuddin Ahmed and sacked major Bazlul Huda while another convict, sacked colonel Rashed Pasha, died a natural death in Zimbabwe while he was on the run.

Farooq Rahman, Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed of artillery faced the trial in the judge court while Huda was extradited from Thailald and another Mohiuddin known as lancer Mohiuddin sent back from the United States after the then district judge Golam Rasul delivered the judgment.

Majed was one of the remaining fugitives believed to be hiding abroad with no confirmed whereabouts.

After the August 15, 1975 carnage, Majed was rehabilitated in civil service during the subsequent regime of Ziaur Rahman as an ex-cadre official and posted as the director of National Savings Department and later he was transferred to the finance ministry.

He fled the country along with most other 1975 coup plotters as the 1996 general elections brought Awami League back tom power under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership which vowed to expose to justice Bangabandhu killers in line with its election manifesto.

Police arrest fugitive Bangabandhu murder trial convict Majed

https://www.bssnews.net/?p=372352

DHAKA, April 7, 2020 (BSS) – A specialised police unit overnight arrested one of the fugitive Bangabandhu Murder Trail convict, former military captain Abdul Majed, who was on the run to escape hangman’s noose, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said.

“He has been arrested and has been sent to court for subsequent legal procedures,” Kamal told in brief comments confirming BSS about the development.

A police officer familiar with the incident said a team of their Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit arrested Majed in a predawn raid at Mirpur area responding to secret information about his presence there.

“He was roaming around a shrine in Mirpur when policemen arrested him,” another official said.

Majed is one of the six absconding ex-army officers who were handed down capital punishment after trial in absentia.

A magistrate court, meanwhile, sent him to jail minutes after he was produced on the dock at Old Dhaka’s Court Complex while the handcuffed convict, put on a bulletproof police jacket and helmet as well, was wearing a white pajama and Panjabi.

“Majed was brought to the court at around 12.15pm . . . Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate AM Zulfikar Hayat passed his order at 12.55pm asking police to send him to jail,” a police officer told BSS at the scene.

Assistant public prosecutor Hemayet Uddin said Majed told the court that he was hiding in India and returned home recently.

But, he said, Majed was not allowed to give any statement as he wanted as “according to law a convict does not have any scope to say anything at this stage of legal procedure”.

Legal experts said a report on his arrest would now be sent to Dhaka District Judge’s court, which originally tried the killers, for subsequent legal procedures.

“The stipulated time for appealing against his death penalty expired long ago . . . apparently Majed now just can seek presidential mercy,” a Supreme Court lawyer said.

Twelve ex-military officers were sentenced to death for the August 15, 1975 killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members and five of them were executed by now while one died a natural death as he was on the run abroad.

The five were hanged at Dhaka Central Jail on January 28, 2010, after a protracted legal procedure while the delayed trial process began in 1996 when an infamous indemnity law was scrapped as it was protecting the assassins from justice until then.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family were killed at 2 different locations. The Bangladeshi military people knew the links between Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and India so they had to be finished off. You cant have a new nation under the control of traitors and somebody had to pay for this division.
It was the politicians who made the people fight and caused fitna. The same way in Pakistan Bhutto was finished.

What alot of people dont mention is that even though Pakistan was divided and Bangla people made their own nation, the highly trained Bangladeshi military and Intelligence people knew what happened, they knew about the links with India and Raw involvement, they knew about Mukhti Bahni, about the propaganda used, it was unacceptable. A snake is a snake.

.
There were some brave men in bangladeshi army who had to do what was necessary. They knew the new country was actually in hands of indian puppets. I wonder how haseena managed to evade? Maybe she was not in country.

This self confessed killer of our father of nation must be executed as soon as possible. This should be the justice.

@Slav Defence, is defaming the father of nation of Bangladesh, justifying his murder as necessary act going to be helpful for the relationship between Bangladesh and Pakistan? Or at least is it going to give us a forum atmosphere for fruitful discussion that all of us desire?

I will leave this matter to you.

Thanks and regards.

some of the Army who revolt against the Pakistani military crackdown and merciless killing of unarmored civilian knew very well that after the war its India who will be the biggest threat to Bangladesh . but we had to chose between a butcher and a hyena for the best benefit of Bengali Muslim people who fought for a separate state of Pakistan but failed to get appropriate right .

Sheik Mujib was a patriot leader he didn't like the Indian controlling our country though he took help from India , actually killing a Leader like Sheik Mujib was way beneficial for India as any leader would not have same popularity like Mujib so manipulating would easy .

Hasina ans her younger sister was in Germany when this assignation took place so she miss the train.

Law Minister: Formalities to execute Majed’s death sentence have begun

Majed was arrested from Dhaka’s Mirpur Cantonment area early Tuesday

The formalities to execute death sentence of Capt (rtd) Abdul Majed, convicted killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, have begun.

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said this in a video message sent to the media in this regard on Tuesday.

He said after completing all formalities, the death sentence will be executed.

Answering to the question if Majed is going to increase the chance of spreading coronavirus among inmates, the minister said like the other death sentenced prisoners, Majed will also be kept in the solitary confinement, so there won’t be any risk of spreading coronavirus through him.

On Tuesday at 3am, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of police arrested Majed from Dhaka’s Mirpur Cantonment area.

Later, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AM Zulfiker Hayat ordered to send him to jail after he was produced before his court.

On November 19, 2009, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court verdict that awarded capital punishment to 12 killers, including Majed, for killing Bangabandhu and most of his family members in a coup d’état on August 15, 1975.

Still five killers remain fugitive -- Col (dismissed) Khandaker Abdur Rashid, Lt Col (relieved) Shariful Haque Dalim, Maj (retd) Noor Chowdhury, Maj (retd) Rashed Chowdhury, and Risaldar Moslehuddin Khan.

Nyah one piece of shit won't be enough to divert attention from the situation we are in right now. People are more worried about their own shit. We can't really blame govt completely after watching what these Kamladeshis have done and are still doing. Army/police can beat the shit outta you but if you are still stubborn enough to ignore all warnings and decide to risk your life nobody will be there to save you.

Why Mujib was killed by his own countrymen? Loyalty to Pakistan?

This thing also proves how easy it was in those days for people crossing over to India.
