Featured BAF to get high-performance fighter planes: PM

I don't understand why would Bangla purchase dual engine jets, does not make sense at all.

Makes complete sense.

Maritime mission is important for Bangladesh.

Note the progress the Navy has made in the last decade.

Why should we buy tejas when we can rescue ummah squad from debt by buying jf17? #rescueummahbuyjf17

Wouldn't ex-IAF Mirage 2000s be a better option? (Sarcasm, is a waste of bandwidth).
These are far better than the hypothetical JF-17s, when upgraded with Israeli ECM and BVR capabilities would give the BD an edge.
They also carry Mica missiles.
Best of all these are free.
If you really want combat capabilities for the upcoming war, then this should be a good option.

Your comments please.

An edge against who?

Google "Shahbaz over the Golan".
Sattar Alvi shot down IAF Mirage while flying Syrian Mig21 in 73.
Saif ul Azam shot down Mirage, Mystere and a Voutur flying Hunters from Jordan and Iraq in 67.
Yep! Also saiful’s wingman... a Jordanian squadron leader... forgot his name though

Better fly the tin cans we have now than poorly maintained Indian aircrafts.

War scenario 2
A more likely scenario is that India gets into a two front war with China and Pakistan and invokes the 1972 Mutual Defense Treaty ( renewed) demanding Bangladesh participation in the war. In such a case BAF fighter squadrons would be operating from Indian bases mostly in the South East of Pakistan's IB possibly Jamnagar. Most of BAFs operations would be over the Rann of Kutch or Sindh as PAF activity there would be limited due to its preoccupation with defending the LOC. The marshy salt water wasteland is lightly defended and BAF would be facing PAF F-7s mostly and is likely to inflict substantial losses on Pakistan. Of course Pakistan would likely strike BAF operating bases with SOW and since most of the air combat would be WVR and GI assist BAF might loose some aircraft to skilled PAF pilots.,

What are you talking about.....what are F7 doing near Rann of kutch.....DO you know which airbases are going to cover areas bordering sindh and arabian sea? PAF Masroor and PAF Bholari, now go figure out what aircrafts are stationed at these 2 bases.

. .
Against PAF F-7s in South Sindh where India brought down the PN Breguet Atlantic in 1999.
That is the likely theater of operations for BAF in a future conflict.

Give it up pal.

What you are saying is ridiculous.

Have you not seen how averse the government of Bangladesh is to conflict?

And you are dreaming up scenarios where BAF goes to Western India to fight against Pakistan?

Also, if you're gonna troll at least be informed about where PAF forces are stationed as @TsAr alluded to.

Maritime defense against who? could you be bit more specific please. The only threat perceived is from Myanmar which has 2 frigates from china, a kilo class sub from India and some a couple of missile boats.

You are correct in terms of peacetime deployments. These aircraft will be deployed north defending LOC, the Chenab Ravi sectors,Islamabad and Lahore, Most of the PAF F-7s are being stood down as reserves as they are replaced with JF17s, and South Sindh is less critical than Islamabad.
The BAF's contribution to the war will be largely symbolic like the RAF
"supporting" US operations against Syria with token strikes by Tornadoes.
But it will be a huge headline grabbing diplomatically and psychologically damaging event for Pakistan if a BAF Mig 29 brings down a PAF F-7.
Hasina Wajed will be adored as the next Indira Gandhi.
It will be India's Abhinandan media event.

You sir are delusional.......Bholari and Masroor are major PAF bases not FOB.....Its best not to discuss PAF in this thread....

My background is that of a civilian with interest in these things so take all this with copious amounts of salt.

However, it's apparent that Bangladesh is prioritizing the Navy in terms of procurement.

Just look at the progress made since 2008.

The Bay of Bengal is where its at.

Also there is a large ADIZ to "police".

So in support of the Navy and for any operations over the ADIZ a two engined platform is favored.

Thus the stated goal to buy fighters for the maritime mission.

Against who?

Myanmar is the most likely scenario.

India is remote to nil.

Who else is there?

Bangladesh is COMPLETELY defensive.

Well...you got a point on aircraft though the BAF started with a 1945 DC-3 and some DH Twin Otters which were hand me downs ( like 120 mm mortars recently handed over by India ) .
Question:
But if the Mig 21 MFs and UMs were so well maintained then why did Bangladesh go for F-6s and that too as hand-me-downs from Pakistan.

Another question:
What is the primary threat to Bangladesh airspace and BAF air superiority and how do advanced fighter jets fit into that doctrine?
My own two cents:
War scenario 1:
The primary (though unlikely) adversary would be Myanmar where the BAF would be facing Su 30 SME and Mig 29B and UBs ( F-7s and JF-17s don't count). BAF would possibly be able to ward off any threats though it is doubtful if it could carry out deep penetration strikes with limited capabilities and the Myanmar Air Forces ground defense.

Don't know about planes but Bangadesh's main worry and priority should be the fact that the country is sinking. Bangladesh is very densely populated, if 11% of the land goes as per predictions situation will get very bad.
Bangladesh doesn't have geopolitical rivals so yeah.
