Avoid the #OSINT trap

This is friendly advice to all senior members especially those who may be on social media and like to follow 'defence analysts' and 'observers' on twitter, telegram etc. Recently there has been a plethora of 'intel' based guys and girls on twitter sharing what they label as 'OSINT' open source intelligence on twitter, facebook, WhatsApp groups and telegram.

Most of this is non-vetted, unverified drivel. Actually for forum members sitting in the US, UK and some western countries, even looking at some of the content these so called 'analysts' post on twitter will have your IP flagged by Sonar(r) Splynx(r) and other compliance tools used by ISPs.

Telegram is another app that has recently been used by 'analysts' on twitter to spread misinformation and terrorist related propaganda under the guise of 'monitoring', again just having telegram on your phone puts you at risk of SSS(Special Security Screening) at various air and sea ports should you choose to surrender your phone upon request (Read Article 8 EHRC).

TSA already have the legal authority to do this, in the UK the snooper's charter once in full effect after Brexit will enable UKBA and So19 to request this and Europol are already working on a framework for social media screening for certain 'at risk' countries, read report:

Listing all these accounts on PDF is not necessary as t just gives them unnecessary publicity, just remember that only follow a source if they are verified, have a government position or from an authoritative body such as a bonafide think-tank/newspaper/institution.

When the Pak-India conflict started there were hundreds of 'intel' guys popping up all over twitter spreading misinformation and in some cases actually jeopardising OPSEC and PERSEC of our men and women in the armed forces by posting vides of assets!

DON'T accept anyone's invitation to download telegram and follow their 'channel'!!!

An account all Pakistanis should be vary of is @ITCTofficial and anyone affiliated with it! If you live in Pakistan please be extra mindful because despite who the originator is, if you spread fake news you are committing an offence and liable for prosecution.

Anything to do with the military use @ISPR as a source.

sir my concern is always when people post live info like 4 f-16 flying on bla bla city cla cla area . or i see 30 tanks loading or unloading at train bla bla city or place . some stupid people do it on social media always even with pics . its ok if they post info some days letter but they like breaking news . i have seen many times massive deployment but sonce became mature stopped posting it . once i was living temporary few days 2 years age near masroor air base and night i captured images and videos but never posted it on internet just keep it . even now i live near airbase and i see daily fighter jets choppers transport planes and AW flying but its stupidity to capture and post them on internet .

Agreed ....During 27th Feb and afterwards, @Arsalan and I spent alot of time deleting such posts / shares here on PDF ..we also repeated warnings against sharing such things...

You can't really stop the twitter accounts, can you. Most of them are now reporting on the Syrian conflict. A while back, IAF and Twitter India tried to illegally censor them.
