Well its affected unemployment here quite seriously. Engineering students used to have 2 or 3 job offers from large companies by their third year. Most are lucky to get a job at all these days.

The unemployment rate is pretty low and the last figures actually showed a drop in unemployment. GDP growth is reasonable too and steady.

They aren't bad, but the budget surpluses of the mining boom are gone. Also, the new Liberal govt. wants to differentiate itself from Labor and portray itself as a fiscally responsible govt.

Mate unemployment's at ~6% from memory. In 2011 it was hovering around 4%.

There might have been a drop since Jan, but the trend is clear.

There is also a lot of hidden unemployment; participation rates have dropped as well as the number of hours worked. Productivity rates are marginally down too from memory.

Let me reassert what I said, the resource based economy of WA is tanking. Happy now?
