MUMBAI: The Australian cricket team arrived in India for their four-Test series against at the host, but an unusual sight at the airport immediately caught the media spotlight.

As soon as the Aussie players landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport, Mumbai, they were spotted hauling their own luggage on a tempo, contrary to a normal practice when baggage handlers ensure the kit bags are transported to a vehicle or in the baggage storage area of the team bus.

Former India spin legend Bishan Singh Bedi was quick to react to the incident and he slammed the BCCI.

“It only reflects BCCI’s appalling non-cooperation..deplorable! Whither Indn warmth/hospitality fr ‘Atithi Bhavna’…?!” Bedi tweeted responding to the picture sent to him via Twitter.

According to Hindustan Times report, BCCI has no role in providing loaders to visiting teams. It is also the case when the Indian team travels outside the country where loading the luggage is the responsibility of the support staff members and not of the hosting cricket board.

Australia kick off their tour with a three-day game against India A at the Brabourne Stadium on Thursday. The Aussies lost 0-4 when they last toured India in 2012-13.

Mumbai: The Australian cricket team arrived at the Chattrapati Shivaji International Airport late on Monday night, for their tour of India, which comprises of a four-match Test series against their hosts.

While the series is set to kick-off next week at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, the Aussies will first play a three-day warm-up game against India A at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.

The Australian cricket team were greeted (or otherwise) in a rather curious manner though at the Mumbai airport.

Normally, when a foreign team arrives in the country, a few porters are arranged to load their baggage onto a vehicle, which generally takes the cargo straight to the team hotel.

In this case however, the Australian players were seen hauling their own luggage onto the truck, according to local newspaper Mid-Day.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) funds had been frozen by the Supreme Court after the board failed to comply with the Justice Lodha committee’s recommendations, last year.

Interestingly, the board had moved the SC to release certain amounts of these funds, in order to be able to host the Test matches against England, last year. More recently, there have also been reports of the India u-19 cricket team being left without money to buy their own dinner.

Lol, BCCI administration is amidst major rejig at the moment, junior team India wasn't paid for their stay at hotel last week if am not wrong. I hope new admin gets it act together soon.

I thought it was some tit for tat move as it literally seems a deliberate act of BCCI as how can they be so non welcoming?

Not sure whats wrong in hauling own luggage out of airport to transport vehicle, people do it globally.
yup they feel they are at home! More ever the question is whether the the mind games have begin or are we reading too much into nothing.

Nope. BCCI is in major transition at the moment. The Chief has just been dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Naah .....We are givin them the kind of treatment that we get once we land in Sydney

Bishen Singh Bedi is a complete coconut.
Very happy to see no servile Indians running around trying to help the esteemed guests(read white).
On the flipside many foreigners dont like their equipment being handled by anyone else.

Indian hospitality at full display. Sports rivalry is one thing, but to welcome a visiting team like this is just disgraceful.

LMAO at the excuses shared by the Indian members. What an incredible shame.
