May be Atif Aslam realized that anyway it is impossible to get into India so why not sing songs that makes Pakistanis happy so that he has a market for his songs in Pakistan.

If he was so concerned about Kashmir...he should never have sung any songs in Hindi movies.

My maternal family are Kashmiris. My maternal great great grandfather was born in what is now occupied Kashmir in 1872 and migrated to Ludhiana when he was young. We still have relatives in Kashmir.

Its quite common in the urban centres of Punjab for people to have some Kashmiri ancestry. The obvious examples are Iqbal, Manto or the Sharif family. Personally my paternal grandmother's (dadi) family are Kashmiri who came to Lahore "during a famine" in the late 1800s as per my elders.

On topic it was a beautiful rendition of the song by Atif. Pepsi Battle of the Bands itself was also a great addition to our music scene. Whilst nepotism seems to be sinking into Coke Studio, BoB has injected fresh new talent into the industry.

Very true, this is a historical fact. The conditions of Kashmiri Muslims under the pre-1947 regime was abysmal, and one of the Wazir's of Kashmir at that time, a Pandit , was reported to have also said, and I am paraphrasing, that there was no issue with the famine, and he wished that no Muslim remain alive because of it.

Obviously, this isn't taught to many people across the border who believe the only victims are Kashmiri Brahmin Pandits.

And to be honest, I still like the original one that used to be played on PTV.

Its crocodile tears used for the purpose of furthering their own geo-political agendas. Even unbiased Indians will accept that what happened to the Muslims in Kashmir far exceeds what happened to the Pandits.

Two wrongs dont make a right of course but the fact that Hindus were able to live within a Muslim majority area for so long after the atrocities committed by the Maharajah and the Indian state on Muslims, is a testament to at least some level of tolerance.
