JALALABAD, AFGHANISTAN: At least four people have been killed in a continuing bomb and gun attack on a government building in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, officials said Sunday.
There were two explosions near the city’s directorate of finance, Nangarhar provincial governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told AFP, adding that “a number of attackers” had entered the building and were fighting security forces.
Health department officials said four bodies and some 20 wounded people had been brought to hospitals so far.

Afghan peace: ‘Suicide attacks violate Islamic principles’
Earlier in April, an Islamic State suicide bomber killed at least 57 people –including women and children — and wounded 119 outside a voter registration centre in Kabul on Sunday in the latest attack on election preparations.

The assaults underscore growing concerns about security in the lead-up to legislative elections scheduled for October 20, which are seen as a test-run for next year’s presidential poll.
There were anguished and angry scenes at Isteqlal Hospital where many of the victims were taken, with relatives criticising the Afghan government for failing to protect their loved ones.
Afghanistan has seen a spate of deadly attacks in the past few weeks as well.
