Very close game, couldve been silver!

The team performance was good enough to get India the bronze medal in the event. They finished with a points total of 1743 points. China, who got the silver, also had 1743 points but they shot more bullseyes' (65 to India's 64). The gold medal went to the republic of Korea (1744 pts).

Asian Games 2014: Indian women settle for badminton team bronze

Incheon: Ending a 28-year-old medal drought in badminton at the Asian Games, India Sunday settled for the bronze in the women's team event going downtamely to hosts South Korea in the semi-finals at the Gyeyang Gymnasium here.

Though World No.7 Saina Nehwal gave India a good start by winning the first singles, her compatriots went on to lose the next three ties and go down 1-3 in the last-four clash.

This is India's eighth bronze at Asiad badminton after having claimed one in 1974 Tehran, five in 1982 New Delhi and one more in 1986 Seoul. This is also India's second ever medal in women's team event after clinching a bronze 32 years ago at home. India have never won an Asiad silver or gold from the discipline.

It was going fine for India when Saina continued her good run to overcame World No.4 Ji Hyun Sung 21-12, 10-21, 21-9 in 58 minutes. Though Saina had a 4-1 record before their encounter, the South Korean had won their immediately previous contest.

However, since the Asian Games are not recognised by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the results won't be counted in the official records.

Hopes were high from double World Championship bronze medallist P.V. Sindhu when she took on World No.6 Yeon Ju Bae but the South Korean girl, with the vociferous support of the home crowd, delivered a brilliant performance to steal the match away from the Indian.

Though the tall and lanky Indian won the first game 21-14, Yeon came back strongly to clinch the marathon one hour and 19 minutes contest by taking the next two games 21-18, 21-13. Thereon, it was too much to ask from the doubles combine of N. Sikki Reddy and Pradnya Gadre and P.C. Thulasi in the third singles to defeat much higher- ranked opponents -- they went on to lose their respective matches, easing the way for the hosts to reach the final.

Sikki and Pradnya lost their 45-minute battle 16-21, 17-21 to Kim Soyeong and Chang Yena while Thulasicould not put up much of a fight and lost 12-21, 8-21 in 37 minutes to Kim Hyomin.

South Korea will try to dethrone nine-time and defending champions China when the two teams clash in the final Monday.

A day after winning the gold medal in the 50 metre event, Jitu Rai Sunday led India's 10 metre air pistol team to win a bronze medal in the 17th Asian Games and also hunting for his second individual medal at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range.

The Indian men's team comprising Rai, Samresh Jung and Prakash Nanjappa, won the bronze in the men's event. Both India and China were tied on 1,743 points but the latter clinched the silver on account of an extra x. The Chinese team had 65x while Indian has 64x. Rai, who won the 50m gold, shot 585, Jung had 580 and Nanjappa 578.

Rai qualified for the final round in the fourth place while his compatriot Jung narrowly missed out after he finished ninth. Nanjappa finished 14th.

Yeah, sadness, it seems like the Comonwealth games silver has now become Asian games bronze

But the strange part is most of our medals come in athletics as far as gold medals

we are on par with other Asians in Athletics and second only to china ,maybe cos we dont have african countries & jamicans participating :D ,but still Asian games are next to olympics if competition is concerned for Indian contigent.
