As India renews NSG bid, Pak throws in a no n-testing pact spanner

Pakistan is fearful of India's rising status in the global order. They fear that India may become so powerful over the next few years that any nuclear tests India will conduct will not create any kind of economic or military backlash.

India's SSBNs also play that part.

So Pakistan wants to ride on India's coattails. "Hey India tested, so we can too, since we've signed an agreement. So don't sanction us."

India doesn't have to do anything. In about a decade, India will easily conduct tests with zero interference from global powers. Pakistan may follow suit and get sanctioned.

If MII is successful, then we don't even have to wait a decade.
