The French manager conceded that the club had thought of coming to India during the pre-season, but had to shelve the plan due to early start of the Premier League...

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger stated that he would have loved to play a pre-season friendly in India this summer had not been for the early kick-off of the Premier League next season.

Speculation has been rife for the last couple of years about the London side touring India. With the Premier League set to start on 8th August next term, the Gunners are scheduled to only participate in the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore.

“I would love to go to India personally because I have never been (there) with a team," Wenger told The Telegraph.

"It is a country that opens to football, but we could not find a way. We looked into it,” he further added.

This is not the first time Wenger has spoken about Indian football this season as before the start of the Indian Super League (ISL), he hoped that the competition captures the imagination of the nation.

Bayern Munich is the only major European club to have played on Indian soil in the recent past.

It's an untapped market for top football clubs of this world... & if any top European clubs goes on charm offensive to woo Indian supporters, they will be in an win win situation. EPL is beamed live in Indian TV channels.. & support base based on loyalties towards one club or other is on the rise.

India is a poor country, poverty level is much worse than Sub Saharan countries. By your logic Africa is an untapped market, yes, they are untapped but they are still dirty piss poor, Arsenal's resources are much better to be spent in Brazil and China than India.
