'Arrogant' US is just a 'shooting star in the ample sky of history,' says Chinese state media
Statement comes as Robert Lighthizer, who has called for a more aggressive approach to dealing with China, is appointed as Mr Trump's trade representative

Chinese state media has said the US is “just a shooting star in the ample sky of history”, in an editorial warning Donald Trump “not to boss China around” on economic and security issues.

The Global Times newspaper, which is backed by the ruling Communist Party, took the strong line on Wednesday, shortly after the President-elect announced the appointment of a second outspoken critic of China to his trade team.

Robert Lighthizer, who has condemned the east Asian country for failing to abide by international trade agreements in the past, will be America’s next chief trade negotiator, the President-elect said on Tuesday.

The 69-year-old has previously advocated for higher trade tariffs and called for tougher methods to “change the system”. His appointment is seen as part of Mr Trump’s plan to up-end US trade policy.

But according to China, the US has had its moment and the President-elect's actions may not matter much in the future.

“May the arrogant Americans realise that the United States of America is perhaps just a shooting star in the ample sky of history,” the paper said, adding that Mr Trump appears to be "fixated" on trade, in a dismissive response to his latest appointment.

Last month, the President-elect appointed Peter Navarro to lead a new presidential office for US trade and industrial policy. Mr Navarro has previously described China’s government as a “despicable, parasitic, brutal, brass-knuckled, crass, callous, amoral, ruthless and totally totalitarian imperialist power”.

Mr Lighthizer, a former Reagan-era trade official, who once travelled the world negotiating deals to curb steel imports, is not at outspoken as Mr Navarro, but has expressed a similar belief that China's economic policies are fundamentally flawed.

The trade lawyer once wrote: “Going forward, US policymakers should take these problems more seriously, and should take a much more aggressive approach in dealing with China.”

Mr Trump said Mr Lighthizer would “fight for good trade deals that put the American worker first”.

He added: “He will do an amazing job helping turn around the failed trade policies which have robbed so many Americans of prosperit."

With Mr Navarro and Mr Lighthizer in important roles, Mr Trump’s trade team is predisposed to be extremely hostile to China.

Louis Kuijs, the head of Asia economics at Oxford Economics and a former senior China economist at the World Bank, told the Guardian he expected Mr Trump’s policies to treat the rival superpower particularly harshly.

“There is almost no guessing, economic policy under Trump will become more nationalistic and more interventionist," he said. "It’s very clear their policies will be especially tough on China."

The USA became the sole superpower in 1991, and they have been declining in relative power every single year since then.

Resulting in constant invasions and wars in the Middle East, as they have desperately tried to cling to their crown.

But it's pointless. The rest of the world is not going to stop developing, it's not going to happen.

So they will be the shortest lived superpower, and probably the last one. The future lies in a multipolar world.

. . .
If america falls down then who'll be the most appropriate for super power?

It is much better for the entire world if it is a multi-polar world.
No big nation is able to take unilateral action against another smaller nation.
At least, the big nations have to agree among themselves first before taking action.
Hopefully, fiascos such as the invasion of Iraq, Libya and the devastation of Syria would not have happened.

America only made contributions to Europe, she provide very limited public goods or good results to other areas. She helped to bring Europe from waste-ground back to prosperity again, she helped to sovle the historical hatred among UK, France and Germany.
We now observe the rest areas for the decades. America send hatred between Arabia and Israel, make middle east and north Africa a mess; America bring Black Sea and Eastern Europe gunpowders; America help the war criminal Japan, deepening the hatred between Japan and its neighbors; America suppress and force Korea onto nuclear-oriented way; America didn't sovle the sub-sahara Africa's poverty; America didn't stop Latin America's recession, America causes the hell of Afganistan, riots in brim of central Asia.
In sum, America in Europe is really a hero, in other places is completely a negative existence.

“despicable, parasitic, brutal, brass-knuckled, crass, callous, amoral, ruthless and totally totalitarian imperialist power”.

He is definitely a strongly convinced personality. Let's say a modern version of the Opium War colonialists who saw opium trade as a means to balance the trade imbalance with China.

The hatred is abject. Sadder than scarier.

I guess, in response to this, we simply get stronger to the point that his vocabulary would dry out.

In the end, "absolute helplessness in the face of ground reality" is the worst punishment we could offer to people in the same mind with him.

As they get angrier, China should become cooler. This will take out the oxygen from the hate-fire burning in these persons souls.

US dig their grave when they Invade Afghanistan and Iraq .. following actions and policies leads them to invade one country after another by putting crazy amount of Dollars in those wars but achieve What ? Peace ? where ? the world today is far more Dangerous than it was back in early 20th century ..
US is getting weaker everyday, Brexit , Syria , Crimea , and now Afghanistan ..

The problem which is troubling the US is how to maintain its numero uno position (for as long as possible)
Thing is China isn't trying to replace the US, it's trying to create a multi polar world order whereas the US wants total world domination. Both China and Russia are standing in her way so Uncle Sam is frustrated for failing to topple Assad, can't do anything to DPRK's nuclear tests, can't prevent China from constructing our assets in SCS plus the militarization on our islands. The title global power or regional power holds no meaning to China as it is not trying to emulate the US strategic model by having bases all over the world causing death and destruction. The number of wars waged by the US after WW2 speaks volume.

China reformed into a market economy in the 1970's, long before the collapse of communism in 1991. :P

What collapsed in 1991 was India's old boss, the USSR who didn't reform in time. Along with much of Eastern Europe.
