Arnab Goswami resigns from Times Now, says could start another venture

Following several days of murmurs that the prime time star of Indian English TV news could be looking at a change, TNM has now learnt that Arnab Goswami has resigned from his position at Times Now.

He was the Editor-in-Chief and President, News, of Times Now and ET Now.

TNM has learnt that he announced at an editorial meeting that he has resigned. He told his team that he will start something on his own. Multiple sources in Times Now have confirmed this to TNM.

He told the editorial team that he believes in the media, and that he will continue in television.

Times Now was not a runaway success, but Goswami spun its ratings around with his loud television.

In 2007, Times Now had beaten its rivals in the weekly ratings for the first time under Arnab Goswami, summoned everyone in the office to a cake before him. He looked around and spotted someone he had waged a one-sided cold war on, and warmly said, “Naomi, come here! Come here!” his first words to her in a full year. “I don’t care about ratings,” he began, waving a knife at the newsroom, “but we’re number one.”

Exchange for media says, "Goswami has led TIMES NOW to leadership in less than a year of launching the channel in 2006. Since 2007, he has maintained and increased the dominance of TIMES NOW in the No. 1 slot for 8 consecutive years. His 9 pm “The Newshour” is the last word in appointment viewing on Indian television, commanding over 70 per cent share of the audience and unmatched viewer loyalty for the last 8 years.
The interview based “Frankly Speaking with Arnab” is, both in terms of viewership and impact, today the most followed interview on television, making headlines every week. As Editor in Chief of TIMES NOW, he has revolutionised news coverage, anchoring for 100 hours during the 26/11 attack, spearheading the greatest exposes against corruption starting with the CWG scam, and including the 2G scam, the Kargil for Profit scam and others in 2010-11, the coverage of the Anna agitation, and path breaking interviews with Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi in 2014 that set the news agenda in the National Election."

So this goswami guy was some news anchor. Always heard his name by Indians, never knew who he was. Hindu extremists on this forum portrayed him as some sort of military general.

He is a nationalist so he tends to be pro BJP but that does not mean he does not roast BJP for some scandals

He said he is thinking to start something of his own. I think he should join BJP media wing

Na most probably he will start his own channel. Times now's entire pull was because of Arnab goswamy. If he goes he is likely to take the substantial viewership with him.

It actually wont serve BJP to have him as a media wing head. It is better to have an arms length distance pro BJP channel

:what: his own channel? so he has the needed capital for the project?

He will obviously have investors. His show was the most watched English news entertainment in India, so it won't be hard to convince investors. Besides being a puppet of the ruling party makes it even easier, Modi probably can't wait to get him back on air.
