It said 60 medical teams of the Armed Forces Medical Services had swung into action.

Navy's marine commandos rescued around 200 people at Haigaon on the Srinagar-Sopore highway. Naval diving teams are on standby in New Delhi, Mumbai and Vishakhapatnam to proceed to Jammu & Kashmir.

Road, telecom network to be restored in J&K soon

Meanwhile, the government has said restoration of road and telecommunication network in the Kashmir valley will take three to five days.

The Centre has directed free flow of transport via Manali and Leh to Srinagar, the only available surface network, a top central government official said in New Delhi on Monday.

The three highways connecting Kashmir with Jammu have been damaged badly and the Border Roads Organization has assessed the damage and conveyed that it will take at least five to seven days for their restoration, the official said.
Works are going on war footing for restoration of BSNL telecommunication network which is expected to be normal in next three days.

Facing problems of connecting even top state government officials, the Centre has dispatched 15 high frequency wireless sets to Srinagar today and is expecting that the wireless service will be restored by Monday night.

Once again the Russian aircrafts prove their worth, while the media most likely will ignore them again.
Well they are available in far larger numbers than Western a/c - 100 AN-32s to 5 C-130J-30s, 17 IL-76s to 5 C-17s, 150+ Mi-8/17 to 0 Chinooks.

What's actually far more impressive is the availability of the Super Hercs- 100% (5/5), do you think any of the Russian equipment is getting anywhere near even 65% availability? Not a chance.

What have the numbers to do with the good work these aircrafts does? The Mi 17 for example has proven itself as an excellent addition to IAF in all kinds of mission, but where are the media reports about that?

And you are confusing the fact that they are "using" all C130s, with "availablity", while it just shows that IAF is using all special ops aircraft they have, since they are meant for these kind of operations too. IAF has also 5 x C17s while only 2 are used, does that mean they have a bad availability or that they are simply used otherwise like the bulk of the other Russian aircrafts too? The latter of course, the C130s for example might be used for monitoring the area with it's surveillance capabilities too, as they did in earlier disaster relief operations. That obviously can't be done with any other aircraft in the IAF transport fleet and that might tell us more about the importance of using all C130s, while just 2 x C17s are enough at the moment.
