Army Colonel, soldier and two militants killed
Tral :Two militants including the District Commander of Hizbul Mujadheen were killed in a brief gun fight at Handora hamlet of Tral town in South Kahsmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday. The HM District Commander accompanied by his associate had arrived at his home when Army and SOG personnel cordoned off the house and neutralized both the militants after two minutes gun fight. An Army Colonel identified as M.N.Rai, Head Constable Sanjeev Singh and two more soldiers of Rashtriya Rifles were injured during the encounter while officials said that the Colonel was airlifted to Badamibagh based 92 Base Hospital in critical condition where he along with the Constable Singh succumbed to his injuries.

The operation was launched after security forces got a tip off that a local Hizbul terrorist along with another accomplice had come home.

Some arms and ammunition have recovered from the scene of the encounter.

Just a day earlier, Colonel Rai had been awarded the Yudh Seva medal on the 66th Republic Day.

Abid khan and Sheraz Ahmad Dar Achieved Martyrdom At Handura Tral both from Tral

Shaheed Mujahid Abid Khan's martyrdom witnessed by his father. I had reached home from duty in the afternoon and Indian Army soldiers were everywhere around my house. We were talking about something when soldiers suddenly rushed inside the house compound. I came out and an Army officer told me: your son is inside and ask him to. surrender I told them that he is not inside check yourself, the army officer said go back inside and check properly. I went inside and told him (Abid) army is outside and are asking you to surrender. I told him to decide what he wants to do now. My son was in a (combat) position in the corridor and was reciting Quran. Abid said: Abu ji, my faith is strong. I will fight. I don't want to make displease Allah. I want you to face the people with high head. Then my son rushed out and opened a burst of fire on the army officer. Sheeraz also joined him and started to fire. Then my son reached the main gate and fired from there. It was here that he was hit and attained Shahadat. The officer was still alive, so Sheeraz came back and fired again at him. Later Sheeraz also achieved Shahadat. It lasted for nearly 20 minutes. (Shaheed Abid had came home to visit his younger brother who is suffering from cancer)
