Against the backdrop of the death of the Delhi gangrape victim, the Army has issued advisories to all its formations across the country against holding new year parties.

Advisory has been issued to all formations that they should not organise new year parties, Army officials said in New Delhi.
Army chief Gen Bikaram Singh and his wife Bubbles Singh will visit patients in Army Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi and Base Hospital on the first day of the new year and distribute sweets.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi too has announced that the party will not be celebrating the new year following the incident.

Amid outpouring of anger and grief in the country, the body of the 23-year-old victim was flown to the capital from Singapore early yesterday morning and cremated within hours.

Opposing the demand for death penalty for rapists, Khaps in Haryana on Sunday said that no law should be introduced in a hurry, which can be misused. Speaking at a village here, Khap leader Sube Singh said that the authorities should not be carried away by emotions in the wake of the public protests over the Delhi gangrape issue and demand death penalty for rapists. “We have seen the anti-dowry Act and the SC/ST Act being misused. Any new law which gives such harsh punishment would also be vulnerable to misuse,” Singh said.

The influential khaps or caste panchayats have in the past drawn flak for opposing marriages in the same sect and their diktats on moral policing.

The statement by the Khap leader raised hackles of activists who said it was an attempt to shield the rapists in Haryana.

"20 gangrapes took place in Haryana in which several people are involved. This is a plot to save them. This atmosphere forces them to... disrespect among women," Jagmati Sangwan, general secretary of the All-India Democratic Women's Association, said.

The controversy comes in the midst of national outrage over the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old in Delhi who died on Friday night.

You know what i hate media when they represent stupid head line and manipulates words. Where he said that he do not want law ? He just said that he want law but not in hurry. Hurry means means we want solid law so nobody can misuse this law.
I have seen a lot of news of misuse related to sc/st and anti dowry. we should give death penalty to rapist, but our new law should be solid so no one can use misuse. Indian society is sick. They always try to break law. Here politicians and rich people always think that they are above law. We have to put restriction on such people. And our police system is fully corrupt. Some times they refused to register case, and hardly less then 10% cases has been charge sheet. Even Delhi Police do not have own forensic lab.
