Argentina chooses second hand Kfir over JF-17, Gripen.

Argentina Air Force officials have been interested in the Kfir for several years, but it was at the 2013 Paris Air Show that delegates met officials of Chengdu Aircraft Corp. and the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, the Chinese-Pakistani partnership that produces the JF-17 fighter jet, the sources said.

The Chinese-built machines were of interest to Argentina because of their relatively low cost and the possibility of being locally assembled at the Fabrica Argentina de Aviones, the former FMA industrial plant at Cordoba.

Using Chinese-supplied components at the beginning, the local assembly offered the possibility of locally manufactured parts at a later stage, opening the way to licensed production and even the development of a version specially tailored to Argentina’s requirements.

Negotiations for the acquisition and assembly of the JF-17 in Argentina started soon but the increasing demands by Argentina for Western avionics and modifications increased the cost of the aircraft.

The integration work needed to accommodate the new avionics also delayed the process and in May 2015, after almost two years of negotiations, the Argentine authorities discarded the JF-17

I think KFIR might comes with more goodies from Israel and there are many users of it from whom they can easily gain Engines and Airframe parts and even engine parts from USA too.

If Argentina is not satisfied with the avionics then how good is JF-17???

JF-17 looses to Israel Aircraft Industries' Kfir Block 60 for Argentina's next-generation multirole fighter program

Argentina has decided not to purchase the FC-1 Xiaolong, a multirole fighter jointly developed by China and Pakistan also known as the JF-17 Thunder, reports the Shanghai-based Guancha Syndicate.

Argentina has opted for Israel Aircraft Industries' Kfir Block 60 as its next-generation multirole fighter. Though the Xiaolong's lower price had been attractive, China refused to provide anti-ship missiles under diplomatic pressure from the UK, according to the Moscow-based Military Parade.

The price of the Xiaolong would not have been too much of a bargain in the end, since Argentina had insisted that China install avionics and weapons systems purchased from Israel as part of the deal.

Israel Aircraft Industries has declined to comment.

It currently serves with the Israli Air Force in a ground attack role instead of aerial combat. Additionally, Argentina will be buying previously used planes.
How many are they buying and @ which cost. Also, are there any other which they can buy for spares?

I have a question .Israel considers to be US and UK big ally ,how can they supply weapon system directly threatning UK interest ,what i mean to ask dont they have any pressure? and how they counter it.

US can put pressure on Israel but UK's pressure doesn't work much... I think Israel will play a nice card here. If UK doesn't want them to sell it to AG then UK has to put pressure on France in the Palestinian issue.

They're buying 18 jets worth 500 million.. almost 28 million a piece... Kfir is a modified Mirage ... Airframe is old but its been upgraded as block 60 with Israeli Airframe and AESA Radar, reconditioned US J-79 General Electric made engine and good weapon from Python to ect..
Still a hell of a fighter only problem is the combat radios.. other than than its good

But they should also look towards more for airframe and engine spares from ex-operators like S.Africa.

Possible.. And IDF has totally around 36-40 of these fighters mostly all of them will go to Argentina, and since the plane is based on Mirage Argentina doesn't have to spent more cash on training and infra.. and these are only a stop gaps i think once their economy improves they might go to first hand ones most probably Chinese ones

They should also look toward Mirage operators like Pakistan, Egypt and other for Airframe spares and F-4 operators for Engine spares too.

For future they should make up a deal with MiG for the next generation fighter.

good options.. and I don't know why Argentina didn't look into Russian fighters.. I don't think so UK can put any pressure on Russia to not to sell weapons to AG..

KFIR can be best for now! But it was to opt for Russian MiG-35s with local production.

at I dont understand is how Israel can sell a jet to a country that is hostile towards UK over the claim on Falklands?
I dont see this deal happening

.
UK has placed it's front line Eurofighter's in the Falklands thus any attempt would be futile and devastating for Argentina even with planned replacements.

Hi,

It is easy to understand---because this aircraft is no threat to the British---so British won't have any objection. Argentinian military would say---hey we got what we could---what was available---don't blame us.

.
Money issue. Regardless, they couldn't afford anything that could challenge the Typhoon anyway.
