What's new

Are we going to see a rupture between Turkey and Europe even Nato soon.

Free Press is allowing anyone to start their own news source.
It is not sending in police, firing the management and jailing journalist
because they are criticizing the government.

A purge of people because they hold a certain political view us also not a sign of a democracy.
The principle is that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

How many people believe that 10s of thousand of Gülen supporters were even aware of the coup attempt?
Let's give ISIS a tv station then....it's free press after all....

. .
Taking over a lot of newspapers/TV stations is not really free press.
Turkey is amongst the worst in the world on treating journalists according to statistics.
Erdogan is not a dictator yet, but he is overstepping his authority according to the Turkish constitution.

If Turkey adopts the death penalty, then the EU will terminate the application to join.
Not that Turkey is close, so it may not be considered a price to pay.
All in a very democratic way.
Irony is that if Erdogan loses popularity, his successor may think death penalty is a suitable punishment.

EU is continuing to criticizing the US for the death penalty and Guantanamo Bay.
Journalists don't have immunity. If they make propaganda for pkk, dhkp-c, gulen or releasing sensitive govt information (like assange and snowden), then the state has every right to arrest such 'journalists'. If you think the state is arresting journalists for their opposition, then you are so wrong. Cumhuriyet, Hurriyet, Taraf, Radikal, Sozcu are among the major anti-govt newspapers to name a few. Hurriyetdailynews is an anti-govt English version of Hurriyet. In the meanwhile we see pkk and gulen supporters freely writing and protesting in the EU. Tell me, the pkk is on the terror list of the EU, why can they protest and wave pkk flag in the capital of the EU, Brussels, but isis can't? Freedom of expression for pkk, but not isis?

Yes, and according to Western media Turkey should have become a second Iran some years back. Don't make us laugh with your predictions. Before the EU does so, Turkey should terminate EU application and smack it in the face of the EU in front of the world.

I hope the death penalty will come. Pkk terrorists and cult gulenists don't deserve to be fed by tax payers after them abusing our state and throwing bullets and bombs at their own people. Turkey is not some Swedish country located safely away from terror. Eye for eye and tooth for tooth for all terrorists and not a single penny from tax payers for vermin. If the US can without any serious pressure from the EU, then so can Turkey. Equality and democracy ;)

We don't see the EU pressuring the US at all. Some halfhearted condemnations won't do it.
When it comes to Turkey, though, the EU politicians and media bombards Turkey non-stop, even belittling now and then.
If the US faced half the pressure Turkey faces from EU, the US would simply move a finger and the EU would shut up and go back to its corner like the spineless organization it is.

Something I've been wondering @OguzSenturk if you're a turk how come you don't know how to spell Gülens first name correct ?

Also free press doesn't mean it's in the hands of AKP or ppl who share same view as RTE. That's not free press either.
And if you're a Turk, you should write Turk with a capital T.

Man, no offense, but I'm laughing from my *** when i read what you write.
The ongoing purge is against Gulenists. They have nothing to do with politics. Their loyalty lies with Gulen first, not the state or any political party. Framing, blackmailing, wiretapping, cheating national exams, purging non-Gulenists from national institutes are among their crimes. We are aware some Western media likes to depict Gulen as if he is part of the 'opposition', far from it. Now, let's watch what Gulen has to say to his followers:

Whenever Turkey cleans up pkk, dhkp-c and gulenists, the EU starts barking and pressuring more :meeting:

I don't understand, whenever Turkey cleans up pkk, dhkp-c and gulenists, the EU starts barking and pressuring more.
They start barking and pressuring more because a huge majority of EU countries support and defend terrorist groups that conduct activities against the Republic of Turkey, as having a stable, prosperous and strengthening Turkey does not fit their geopolitical calculus, runs against their superiority complex and triggers the centuries old fear and hatred they have against the Ottomans. Basically a bunch of fearful, bigoted and spineless cowards playing every card they have against us. But as they say, vengeance arrives on swift wings and tears apart with even swifter talons.

Yep, and what i fear now, is that they can resort to assassination of the Turkish leadership through one of their proxies. Su uyur, dusman uyumaz. Everything can be expected from them to advance their own interests.

We withstood much more before, this too will be overcome.

You say it yourself. Freedom of the Press will still allow propaganda.
Inciting violence can always be prosecuted.

Turkey ranks #151 in press freedom.

Cleaning up is what dictators do.
In a true democracy, you prosecute for actual crimes, and belonging to the opposition should not be one of them.

As for the US, they are not even on the waiting list for the EU, so you are ahead.

Hahaha you were criticizing Fethollah newspapers and TVs when they were Ally with AKP hahaha LMAO much hypocracy :omghaha:

Every single Turkish Citizen :P

much political view, such democracy

Post reported for changing my question when You quote it.
You are now on my ignore list...

Let's give ISIS a tv station then....it's free press after all....
There are still laws that govern what You can send, and ISIS would be breaking them soon enough.
The problem occurs when the government is out of line and starts arresting journalists for reporting it.

Save your fairy tales to some one who would buy it.

I'm not trying to defend ISIS or something like that. I'm just exposing the hypocrisy of the West. Today you can't find that ISIS march on Youtube. If PKK would have exploded a bomb in the middle of Brussels. You would be quick to ban all PKK related stuff. That's your "freedom of expression"..with a touch of hypocrisy.

Journalists are not arrested because of "reporting" but because of their link to Gülenist terror organization. Not only journalists get arrested but judges, soldiers, prosecutors, civil servants, businessmen, teachers etc....

.
Western logic ;

When Fethollah was Ally of AKP... West: "A person shouldn't be able to rule %90 of the media in one country!!!! Fethollah cannot use Media to say whatever he wants in Democracy!!!"
baby-crying.jpg

When Fethollah bombed shit out of Cities, Turkish Civilians, Parliament, streets, killed 250+ and wounded 2200+... West: "A person should be allowed to rule the media as he wants!!! He can use Media to say whatever he wants in Democracy!!!"

In Iraq we have free media trust me if I tell you this: many baathist and Takfirees use this free atmosphere to propagate against the state, army and the whole country it is Destructive rather than it is constructive! these media try to be little any thing the state do any achievement of army calling PMU militia the same militia that defeated ISIS.

So, you're telling me an isis supporting 'journalist' can write and make propaganda (read; making threats, supporting the agenda and/or justifying killing) about isis in the US or EU and get away with it unpunished?
I'm glad such pkk, dhkp-c, gulenist and state secrets leaking 'journalists' are questioned and arrested in Turkey.

Ranking does not matter if foreigners don't (want to) know what's going on and simply base their judgement on news such as 'journalists arrested in Turkey!' (but don't wonder why or no objective explanation is given) or if such rankings carry an agenda. So it seems then that if Turkey wants to rank in the top 10 of the free press ranking, the state should turn a blind eye to those journalists that abuse their job. Not going to happen. Again, i'm glad that our state takes measures.

Of course they are first prosecuted and not immediately thrown into a cell considering there are many innocent non-Gulenists among the suspects too.

As if the EU would dare to poke its nose and seriously pressure the US had Turkey not been on the waiting list.

I have sad news, bro. You don't have a free press, because you're even more dictator than us, it seems :D:disagree:
https://rsf.org/en/ranking
(not taking this seriously)

Netherlands is #2 and i can confidentially say from real life experience that the Dutch media heavily relies on foreign (western) media agencies, like Reuters and AFP, for foreign news. Conspiracy theory: is it maybe possible that the ranking will be better the more your country is dependent solely on Western media agencies?

Let's see what they say about Turkey:

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has embarked on an offensive against Turkey’s media. Journalists are harassed, many have been accused of “insulting the president” and the Internet is systematically censored. The regional context – the war in Syria and Turkey’s offensive against the PKK Kurds – is exacerbating the pressure on the media, which are also accused of “terrorism.” The media and civil society are nonetheless resisting Erdogan’s growing authoritarianism.

The featured articles say more than enough too. All in all, ta-da, rank 158 based on BS claims and some truth. Never visiting that rubbish website again.

We have many media here which propagate against the state, we ignore them mostly.
Other media propagate against the current government.
A newspaper typically shares the view of one or more parties, so by reading multiple papers
you can see all sides if an issue.
That is what is expected in a true democracy.
A country that only has papers which supports the government through wet and dry does not have free press.

Journalists making threats will be prosecuted like anyone else.
Laws making it a crime to insult the president does not belong in a democracy.

Save us your true democracy. I'm stationed in Scandinavia, and just 2 days ago, 24/7 all of the major outlets published fake news about Turkey. That Turkey will allow pedophilia, as long as the children consensually agree to sexual activity. This was based on a 1 month old Hurriyet news. Everybody screamed this is false news, and all of the newspapers toook it back, but to no avail, we see your true colors and your concept of "free media". It's way too late to defend your hypocricy, Turks see you for the hypocrits you are.

Ana PLEASE, save us your biased untrue colored statistics. This is Western concept of statistics. Whenever a Muslim kills someone, this is counted as an act of terrorism, in complete coordination with a deep network. Whenever a Westerner kills anyone, he is deemed mentally unstable, and is UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES counted as a terrorist act.

Do Westernes have patent on who to categorize and define as terrorist? What free media means? Let's count the terrorism orchestrated by the West for once. Uhhmmm let's just start with one country. To my mind comes the Iraq genocide of 2003, how many millions did US and their lapdogs terrorize in their homes in Iraq?
How many millions died due to Western terrorism? That alone is about several thousand times more terror victims than the entirety of ISIS terror victims.

In short, the West (EU+USA) have absolutely no authority who to deem terrorist, how to define concept of free media. Your world is the perpetrator for about 90% of death and destruction in the world. Go back to your safe caves and keep selling your weapons and create more wars to sell those weapons to thrive on death and destruction. ;)

You may want to watch the TV series "International Terrorism since 1945"

IRA, ETA, Red Brigades, Baader-Meinhof, EOKA, SLA and lately Breivik are all considered terrorists.
And no, the latest Muslim Terrorists have not coordinated with a network, they are just
following ISIS suggestions to murder innocent civilians wherever.

As pointed out, if You believe that Turkish sources spread false news, then it is better
to sort it out diplomatically, explaining facts, instead of aggressively escalating the issue.
