Since October 1957 the world launched almost 5000 satellites Tunisia didn't have anyone of them ! Carthage Sat 01 will be inshallah the first "Tunisian satellite" in space

UAE to send first Arab spaceship to Mars by 2021

Abu Dhabi: The UAE has entered the space race with a project to send an unmanned probe to Mars by 2021 in the Arab world’s first mission to another planet. A new UAE Space Agency will be created to coordinate the UAE’s growing space technology sector and to supervise the mission.

The UAE is one of only nine countries with space programmes to explore the Red Planet. The Mars probe’s nine-month and more than 60 million kilometre journey will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the UAE’s formation.

“The UAE Mars probe represents the Islamic world’s entry into the era of space exploration. We will prove that we are capable of delivering new scientific contributions to humanity,” President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan said.

“The UAE’s purpose is to build Emirati technical and intellectual capabilities in the fields of aerospace and space exploration and to enter the space industry and to make use of space technology in a way that enhances the country’s development plans.”

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, said: “Despite all the tensions and the conflicts across the Middle East, we have proved today how positive a contribution the Arab people can make to humanity through great achievements, given the right circumstances and ingredients. Our region is a region of civilisation. Our destiny is, once again, to explore, to create, to build and to civilise.

“We chose the epic challenge of reaching Mars because epic challenges inspire us and motivate us. The moment we stop taking on such challenges is the moment we stop moving forward.”

The mission will be led by Emiratis and so will expand the nation’s human capital through knowledge transfer from international partners, as well as increasing human knowledge about space exploration and distant planets.

The Red Planet project would be a turning point in the UAE’s development, establishing the space technology sector as a key component of the national economy for years to come.

UAE investments in space technologies already exceed Dh20 billion, including satellite data and TV broadcast company, Al Yah Satellite Communications, mobilesatellite communication company, Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications and Earth mapping and observation system, Dubai Sat.

Shaikh Mohammad said the UAE Space Agency would be responsible for supervising and organising all such activities, developing the sector, ensuring knowledge transfer, enhancing the UAE’s position as a global player in aerospace, and maximising the contribution of space industries to the national economy. The agency will report to the Cabinet and enjoy financial and administrative independence.

Globally, space technologies are becoming increasingly important to the security and economy of nations, in many cases backed by massive national programmes and establishments. The sector is integral to many aspects of life from telecommunications and navigation to broadcasting and monitoring of weather and natural disasters.

“We aim for the UAE to be among the top countries in the field of aerospace by 2021. We have a great belief in Allah and in the talents of our young people. We have the strongest determination, the greatest ambitions, and a clear plan to reach our targets,” Shaikh Khalifa said.

What guarantee is there to suggest Mars One will fully establish a colony on planet Mareekh by 2025? They haven't even selected a rocket yet that can take humans there and have just requested aerospace firms to build an unmanned rover for them which won't be launched any sooner than 2018.

Status of this project is unknown.

In 2013 a 6 ton satellite has been planned and $600 million is budgeted for this project.

Gelgamesh 1 will be the name of a new satellite built by the Ministry of Communication in Iraq and the world’s leading communication companies (including the french aerospace company Astrium ).

14 space and communication companies provided proposals for a strategic multipurpose satellite to be launched into the earth’s orbit according to the Ministry of Communication. This comes after the Iraqi Ministry of Communication announced that it had reclaimed its outer space territory according to international laws.

KhalifaSat heralds Emirati milestone: EIAST

KhalifaSat will be the third satellite launched by Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology, making it the UAE’s most technologically advanced imaging satellite.

The country’s first satellite designed and built by Emirati engineers, KhalifaSat, will soon start taking shape at a new satellite development facility in Dubai. Top officials at the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) announced the agency’s latest developments at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Yousuf Al Shaibani, Director General of EIAST, said: “KhalifaSat is a milestone for EIAST as well as the UAE. It will be an assessment of our capabilities in satellite manufacturing helping us position ourselves as leaders in satellite development and technology, regionally and internationally.”

KhalifaSat will be the third satellite launched by EIAST — making it the UAE’s most technologically advanced imaging satellite.

“We are delighted that this progress is as per our timeline and results have exceeded expectations,” added Yousuf.

Emirati engineers working at a facility in South Korea have successfully completed the design of modules and sub-systems for the satellite. Speaking with journalists, Amer Al Sayegh, Director of Space Systems Development at EIAST said: “The project will be shifted from South Korea to the UAE once our new development facilities will be built here in Dubai.”

“Technological innovations which can help us in our future projects will be at the core of our research agenda. We are in the process of finalising the mock-up model of KhalifaSat which will have a bus similar to that of DubiSat-2 but with an improved mechanical structure which will house a more developed camera,” added Amer.

The satellite will be positioned at an altitude of 600 kilometres and feature an imaging resolution of 70cm. Engineers working on the project’s second phase will create a full engineering model of the satellite and a mock-up mechanical model.

Software upgrades and new technologies will enhance the latest satellite’s performance by 30 per cent.

Technological achievements of the new satellite will include more storage capacity, faster download speed, and better computing capabilities.

Testing for the new satellite is expected to partly take place in South Korea but manufacturing components will take place in Dubai. The manufacturing of the actual flight model of the satellite will follow in the final phase, which is expected to be ready for launch in 2017.

Dubai Sat-1 and Dubai Sat-2 are actively deployed, providing government departments in the UAE with advanced imaging capabilities and helping them monitor projects. EIAST was established by the Dubai Government in 2006 to encourage scientific innovation and technological progress in Dubai and in the UAE.

CAIRO: Egypt plans to launch its first radar satellite by 2020 to source ground water, identify landmines, and explore the deep sea, according to an official in the Egyptian Space Program.

An international tender would be posted to choose a foreign partner to help launch the satellite, the official who talked on condition of anonymity told Youm7 Saturday.

The Russian Sputnik agency reported in April that Egypt aims to develop its space program and Russia could be a strategic partner to establish a specialized space agency in Egypt.

Russia has signed number of agreements with Egypt in space field; in 1997, a cooperation agreement on scientific research was signed, while peaceful usage of nuclear power deal was signed in 2001. Another agreement on the peaceful use of outer space was inked in 2003.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi also signed in February a memorandum of understanding in space field with his counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Riyadh,Asharq Al-Awsat —Saudi Arabia and two global aerospace giants, US-based Lockheed Martin and French satellite launch company Arianespace, announced on Tuesday they have signed deals to build and launch two new communications satellites and boost future Saudi satellite endeavors.

At a news conference in the Saudi capital Riyadh, Prince Dr. Turki Bin Saud Bin Mohammed, the President of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), said investments of up to 650 million US dollars (2.4 billion Saudi riyals) would be made in order to build the new satellites, which will provide television, Internet, and telephone services for Riyadh-based satellite operator Arabsat.

The satellites will be built by Lockheed and then launched by Arianespace using its Ariane 5 rocket from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana. The deals were signed on April 9 and construction will commence immediately. The satellites will be launched in 2018.

Khalid Balkheyour, the CEO of Arabsat, said the two new satellites—the Arabsat 6A and the Hellas-Sat-4/SaudiGeoSat-1—would be joining “a fleet of satellites that provides millions of people access to TV, radio and broadband services for mobile and landline communications.”

Arabsat has launched a total of 13 satellites, and this will be the 10th satellite the Riyadh-based operator will launch with Arianespace.

The operator hosts some of the Arab world’s most popular satellite television channels, including the MBC and Rotana family of channels, and the Abu Dhabi Sports channel.

The deals, signed between KACST, Arabsat, Lockheed, and Arianespace, also include agreements to boost future “design, manufacture, assembly and integration of satellites” in the Kingdom in coordination with the TAQNIA Space Company, a subsidiary of the Saudi Technology Investment and Development Company (TAQNIA), according to a Lockheed Martin press release.

Prince Turki said the deals were launched as part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious economic development plan, which aims to boost the Kingdom’s knowledge-based industries and technological capabilities by 2020. One trillion US dollars have been earmarked in spending between 2010–2020 to achieve this goal, according to the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority.

A key component of the plan involves building dedicated “economic cities,” which go beyond the business model of “economic zones” and aim to be all-inclusive, comprehensive centers of activity for a particular industry. The KACST was one of the first of these.
