ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that he was aware of his constitutional responsibilities regarding the appointment of a new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJSC).
According to the spokesman for the PM House, the prime minister will announce appointments of the Army Chief and CJSC at the same time after holding consultations.
The spokesman quoted the prime minister as saying that the decision would be taken in the interest of Pakistan
The tenure for outgoing CJSC General Khalid Shameem Wyne expires at midnight, while the tenure of Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will expire on November 29.
If the government fails to appoint a new CJSC, Army Chief Kayani will assume the responsibility until the appointment is made.
On Sunday in a statement issued by the ISPR, Army Chief Kayani was quoted as saying that he would retire when his tenure expired and it was time for others to carry forward the mission of making Pakistan a truly democratic, prosperous and peaceful country that embodies the finest dreams our founding fathers had envisaged for us.
