Defence Minister A K Antony today said Russia should induct the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, produced by an Indo-Russian joint venture, in its armed forces so that the success achieved by the project would be fully appreciated.

Addressing the ‘Partnership Day’, marking the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Inter Governmental Agreement (IGA) between India and Russia for the formation of the BrahMos joint venture here, he said that the Indian Air Force (IAF) would soon have Brahmos, both on land and air platforms, making it a real force multiplier for all the wings of the Indian Armed Forces.

The Indian Army, Navy and Air Force consider BrahMos to be an important weapon due to its speed, precision and power, he said.

The Government has also decided to expand the infrastructure at multiple centres to cater to larger production requirement of BrahMos missiles and systems, he said.

Mr Antony said the cooperation between scientists and scientific expertise of DRDO and NPOM and many other organisations from India and Russia had proved that there is a way to do things faster and take the lead in the world.

"The partnership has blossomed and yielded results, which have not been achieved by any other country," he said.

He said the role of DRDO, NPOM and the quality assurance agencies in grooming this industry to achieve high technology levels and a superior quality product had resulted in customer satisfaction.

He said this process had resulted in a new trend of thinking, in terms of a collaboration and joint venture, as India too could share its technology and products with others.

BrahMos Aerospace CEO and MD A Sivathanu Pillai, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne, DRDO chief V K Saraswat and NPOM Director General A G Leonov also spoke on the occasion.

What's matter, Indian's Brahmos not sucess enought? must be a rational explaination why India keep insisting and Russia keep silence :smokin:

 what a fool is that Antony, say?

they wont use it, because it's a downgrade version of yakhont. look at vietnam, they bought a few land-based yahont batteries straight from russia instead of the cheaper bhramos.

That's a very correct observation!

Brahmos is the low end of Yakhont series.

This isn't true- the only reason the Russians are reluctant to buy the Bhramos (although they seem to be coming round to the idea) and the Vietnamse bought Yahhont is ebcause of the relative COST of the Bhramos which is considerably more than the Yahont.

Are you saying that for same performance, Indian made version is more costly? then why not just buy Yahong instead?

that is incorrect. the reason vietnam bought the yakhont is because russia does not allow india to re-export their missile to other countries.

In the same vein of logic Antony must urge that France Air Force to induct LCA, too, to "share the fruits of co-development" just because the Frenchies did the pricinpal design of LCA decades ago in the beginning...

The Ruskie defence chief should respond to Antony

"Shut up!, say one more time Brahmos I'll make it sure personally to send you to Siberia gulag!"

that is incorrect. the reason vietnam bought the yakhont is because russia forbid india to re-export their missile to other countries.

India and Russia have together made up a list of third parties both are comfortable with selling the Bhramos to. Vietnam is belived to be on that list.

There is no such news about Russia forbidding India from selling anything.

there is news. someone actually posted here on this forum not long ago.
