Another Zarb-e-Azb will be fought in our cities and villages: PM

Published: December 22, 2014
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced on Monday to launch an offensive against militants in rural and urban areas of the country in an apparent expansion of the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

“One Zarb-e-Azb is being fought in the tribal areas and a second Zarb-e-Azb will be fought against those who are hiding in our cities and villages,” the premier said, while chairing a four hour long high-level counter terrorism meeting, according to the PM Office.

The premier vowed that a decisive battle would be fought against all militants, including those responsible for the Hazara Town in Quetta and the Peshawar Church attack.

“The government will not differentiate between terrorists and their facilitators. They both will be taken out,” PM Nawaz said.

“Terrorism and sectarianism are a cancer for this country and now the time has come to root it out,” the premier said.

Sources added the high-level meeting discussed various plans, including overhauling of criminal justice, and a new administrative and legislative system in the country.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, SAFRON Minister Abdul Qadir Baloch, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt and special assistants to the premier Khawaja Zaheer and Barrister Zafarulaah attended the meeting.

It's never even been said before. Let me explain.

I'm somewhat convinced the army means business now. If the ganja is saying it too, it's a very positive sign. He's in cahoots with the mullahs - doesn't look like it, but he's a superstitiously religious man at heart.

Nobody dares confront the mullahs which Bhutto and Zia left us with, particularly those mullahs that are backed by the army. It's always been difficult addressing this topic. Any such large scale operation against imams and madrassahs (those that are obviously extremist, but to socially acceptable levels) has the misfortune of being labelled a war on Islam - thus throwing the government off its war-footing and swinging public opinion in favour of the bearded folk (as happened with Mush).

But this time it's different. This time we have a scale on which to measure terrorism. If you condemn the Peshawar massacre, you're good...but if you refuse to condemn it, you're a terrorist and the public wants you strung.

We've never had this scale before and therefore we've never had a direction before. Where Islam ends and where terrorism begins has always been a blurry line...now it stands defined and as solid as it will probably ever be.

Let's just hope we, as Muslims, can handle what the army wants to do to the mullahs. I know I'm ready for it.

This should have been started at the time the operation was started in FATA. But Nawaz Sharif and his cronmy party thought army will take care of terror problem and we should continue with out thekaydaari or metro bus and motorway.

any sane and legit govt should have started the operation in cities at the same time to disrupt their ability to strike soft targets. PMLN in a typical Pakistani complacent style, chose to do otherwise.

The terrorist have inflicted deep wounds on the soul of the nation. The killing of 133 school children in cold blood is the last straw. The Pakistani nation is united against all form of terrorism, so this is the right time to strike them where ever they are. These enemies of humanity have no ethics or conscience and the kill without any remorse what so ever. It is an encouraging call from the Prime Minister, because we all know that ruthless enemy is hiding and ready to strike from cities to villages. Recently after the school attack in Peshawar our President Barack Obama said “…We stand with the people of Pakistan, and reiterate the commitment of the United States to support the government of Pakistan in its efforts to combat terrorism and extremis and to promote peace and stability in the region”. We stand united with the people of Pakistan in their quest for peace.

Most of the rented terrorists & their foreign handlers are hiding in cities & villages. If the govt. Shows complete honesty in on going ops & they do not ignore death sentences, all this can be avoided as this will strike fear in the heart of rented terrorists, apart from this PA & intel agencies should be given free hand & military courts should deal with captured rented terrorists.

The fact is govt, her allies (ppp, anp, jui-f, ji) & even opposition are all scared shit. This is a real concern.
