Another anti dengue day
LAHORE: Anti-dengue day will be observed in Punjab tomorrow (September 14). Sweeping will be carried out in government departments to remove the dengue breeding sites and hotspots. Seminar and walks will be organised for creating awareness among the masses which would be led by elected public representatives.
A spokesman for Health Department said that anti-dengue day would also be observed in the offices of Health Departments, Public hospitals and Health Centers. For which Secretary Health has issued written directions to all the concerned.
The spokesman further said that community participation would also be ensured in the activities of anti-dengue day. He said public seminars and walks would be organised by government departments and other autonomous institutions. Moreover, awareness campaign in both Print and Electronic Media would be launched besides awareness messages also be aired on local cable networks with the cooperation of district governments.
The spokesman said that dengue is a medical as well as a social problem therefore full participation of community is essential for which walks and seminars are being organized for mobilizing community against dengue.
The spokesman further said that banners carrying dengue awareness messages also be displayed at bus stops, railways stations and city terminals etc.
He said the purpose of observing anti-dengue day is to create awareness regarding dengue among the general public and to invite them to participate in anti-dengue activities enthusiastically so that the dengue issue could be effectively overcome.
Meanwhile, Advisor to Chief Minister on Health, Kh Salman Rafique has directed Town officers of all the concerned departments to pay special attention on dengue surveillance in those areas from where dengue patients are being reported.
He stressed upon all officers to continue dengue control activities with focused approach. He said that participation of community for eradication of dengue is essential. He said that month of September is important due to rains therefore we will have to work with devotions and dedication for eradication of dengue.
He said this while addressing a meeting of officers of all towns of Lahore along with Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Amir Suhail Mirza.
He directed town administrators to carry out complete sweeping of sensitive union councils and officers to personally monitor these activities.
