Steve781, I think it's because a lot of the Bangladeshis in the UK are Sylheti. I think there is an assumption, rightly or wrongly, that we tend to be more religiously conservative than Bangladeshis from other regions of the country. Also, when you live in a Muslim country you take things for granted whereas living in a country of the infidel you feel the need to cling on to your ethnic and religious identity. Also, parents feel the need to set an example for fear their children may stray from cultural values when living in a non-Muslim country.
