What's new

Another 2 Brit Bangladeshis went Syria and now back facing 12 years

just going to Syria and living there for a few months shouldn't be a crime.

Bulk of people going from UK to Syria are Bangladeshis. Most Bangladeshi youth have adopted the Salafi line of Islam. It is a phenomenon for Bengali youth to aspire to be 'Jundullah's' or Mujahideen. Most Pakistanis in UK follow a Sufi branch of Islam called Barelvi and from my experience never speak about Palestine or Syria in their Khutbas (sermons) and I assume their Imam's would advise them not to go.
It is quite strange that the burkha should be so common in areas like Tower Hamlets and yet apparently it is a very rare sight in Bangladesh itself.

Steve781, I think it's because a lot of the Bangladeshis in the UK are Sylheti. I think there is an assumption, rightly or wrongly, that we tend to be more religiously conservative than Bangladeshis from other regions of the country. Also, when you live in a Muslim country you take things for granted whereas living in a country of the infidel you feel the need to cling on to your ethnic and religious identity. Also, parents feel the need to set an example for fear their children may stray from cultural values when living in a non-Muslim country.

It's common in both places. Bengali women majority wear the Burka.

Take that Sylheti bull-sh*t out the equation please. We are talking about Syria not Sylhet.

Come to Croydon or Peckham...will introduce to the black brotherhood.

Sorry didn't know there was a gangster on this forum.
