'Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka keen on providing sites for Russian nuke reactors'

I agree with your comments & the facts & I have nothing against Nuclear plants in the inland

All I did was post the DAE's requirements.. They wanted a plant to be in a coastal state(to save money going by your first post). But as UP isn't one, they couldn't select it.

THough I agree with you regarding LAB, it makes land acquisition near impossible anywhere in india...
Add to that UP has a rather pathetic gov which only cares about votes knowing them they might as well scrap the nuclear plant on ridiculous grounds
Attended a seminar last month organized by Power grid and per future plans, inter grid connections (meaning EHVAC or HVDC) lines connecting regional grids is planned so as to ensure quick power transmission from one region to another and also ensuring overall grid stability.
We know several states donot have good investment atmosphere and it is evident that infra projects are the first ones to take hit. In this scenario Powergrid's initiative will allow people of any state to get electricity even if the plant is situated far off.
But again current policies allow the home state, largest share of power from a plant and hence the states that won't allow plants are likely to be at receiving end (literally and figuratively). UP unfortunately is one of them.

LAB is being replaced by a new Bill of the Modi govt hopefully it will pass in Rajya Sabha too
Its really important, land acquisition has become biggest bottleneck for any project to be taken up. I hope regional parties like AIADMK support bill in RS.

Unfortunately the states that are better attuned to economic interests seem also to be the only ones interested. What can one make of the disinclination of WB & Odisha other than they simply don't care? That certainly is the message that goes out.
I really pity Odisha, the state is blessed with enormous natural mineral resources and a long coastline. It has potential to become one of the most industrialized state and thus bringing prosperity to its citizens, but strangely that hasn't happened.

Ironically CPM did a course correction since 2001 when Buddhadeb took charge, and was going full steam with industrialization, his 1st term was excellent, in his second term TMC did some dirty politics, joined hands with the Maoists, and misled the villagers where major projects were coming.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was probably one of the better CM's around. Would have done very well if he was in a state like Karnataka rather than WB. (considering that Bengali population in Bangalore is estimated at around 1 million, it seems quite a few Bengalis think they will do better in Karnataka anyways :D)

AIADMK supports it :-http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/aiadmk-chief-jayalalithaa-pats-narendra-modi-regime-defends-support-for-land-bill/articleshow/46558584.cms

And so does the TDP, CBN needs to buy land for his capital which this bill can help him to do so..

& regarding Odisha, Naveen Babu is a good manager but a passive administrator not an active one like Naidu or Jayalalitha..
If there is a cyclone or some major problem, he can deal with it & do a good job. But on the development+infra.
front, he is not very active.
He did try to get some companies(like Vedanta) to invest in odisha & it's high mineral wealth, but the UPA stopped the construction of those plants, because of "environmental grievances". [Read as attempt by Pappu to get tribal votes]

Naveen Patnaik has been one of the biggest let downs for all his charisma & supposed honesty. Hopefully the new policy of the central government of auctioning coal mines gives Odisha a better chance at bettering the state though not nearly enough. With all of WB's problem, Bhubaneshwar could have been the magnet city of Eastern India. Unfortunately that never happened. There is absolutely no reason why Odisha is languishing except for the incompetence of its politicians & officials. The policies followed by the previous central government certainly didn't help but the largest part of blame must be of the Odisha government alone.

Yes i heard original LAB is RG's brain child and obviously aimed at getting votes. The bill not only failed him and his party (electorally) but also De-moralized industry as a whole. So much for the vision :o:

RG & SG are part of the crazy left, even loonier than the regular left. The coronation of RG that will happen soon will likely remove what is left of the centrists in the Congress & India will finally have the national alternative to the left - the "crazy left". (there is already a state representation of the loony left brigade- goes by the name of the TMC). RG doesn't want the likes of Chidambaram etc who might tell him that his policies are guaranteed to be economic suicide, he wants not to be bothered about things like finances, growth rates etc while he is creating his leftist utopia where people get paid for digging & filling in holes.

What to say, TMC has done more damage to Bengal's economic future than than what British raj did! :(

Ironically CPM did a course correction since 2001 when Buddhadeb took charge, and was going full steam with industrialization, his 1st term was excellent, in his second term TMC did some dirty politics, joined hands with the Maoists, and misled the villagers where major projects were coming. Internal differences within CPM and death of some key administrators in CPM also weakened it, and here we are. Industrialization has stopped in Bengal, Mamata blocked all the projects that Buddhadeb babu got for Bengal; Tata Nano and its 70 ancilliaries, world's 2nd largest petrochem project, Infosys, Wipro 2nd campus, NTPC Power plant, DVC Power plant, Jindal mega steel plant, Bhushan, Jai Balaji, and Shyam steel plants, many roads and highways, bridges and flyovers, metro project (East West), Modernization of Haldia port, Rajarhat New Town Action Area-4, and many more smaller and lesser known projects got stuck. Now TMC is taking credits for all the projects that got through during CPM's time. And yes, we have surplus electricity now as industries didn't took off. :(

Forgot to mention, TMC blocked Haripur nuclear plant also.
Hello, I just noticed you changed your profile name. Any reason for that? or you consulted some numerologist? but Rain Man is better than Dr. Dry. :-)
Reg your comments about surplus electricity in WB, I was surprized to know about it as I met a gentleman who owns a hydro power plant near Darjeeling area and he said he was struggling to sell electricity. I really feel sorry about Kolkata which was once the capital of British India. I visited kolkata before TMC came to power and the kind of development work i noticed in Rajarhat area was amazing. I told my hosts that this project will return Kolkata her lost glory but I am told now that Rajarhat has slowed down and TCS, Infosys and others are backing out. When I was in college, my bong friends talked about kolkata as it was the ultimate place and no kolkatan would ever think of settling in any other town. But today i see them moving out of kolkata. really sad.

It was 'dray', or 'd ray'! Changed it to something anonymous. :)

Most of the IT companies including Infosys, Wipro 2nd campus, etc. have backed out as Mamata is not ready to give SEZ status to them as promised by the previous government, TCS is opening a new campus just because they got the SEZ status during the previous govts. time. She is incapable to realize that there is nothing like 'CPM govt.' or 'TMC govt.' in case of business promises, it is only the West Bengal Government which should have honoured its previous promises.
