On what charges was the mayor arrested? Surely, he wasn't arrested for his policies regarding immigration. There must've been some legal reason for it.

With regards to the businesses they immigrants were provided with (olive fields etc), what was their status prior to being handed over to the immigrants?

I agree with you partly.

However Italy needs immigrants that are able to do manual work like working the fields. These immigrants were productive members of society as they were working, not committing crime and hence benefitting Italy.

Currently Italy's population is dropping by -0.2% a year which is ok but as each woman is having around 1 less child than replacement level, once the current generation of child-bearing women are passed having children then the number of babies being born each year will only be a fraction of the people that are retired and needing looking after. The mathematics of this cannot be easily explained to make it easily understandable but without a certain level of unskilled immigration Italian society will collapse some decades in the future.

Is there a government body that must be asked before giving work to migrants or is it something else?

there are migrants who come here and take advantage of the system and cause problems and get away with it. and there are those who come here and genuinely make an effort to adapt and contribute to society. i doubt the lady i quoted does the latter.

well I don't know her and I'm not personally against her but I don't like the hypocrisy and especially when people throw unqualified and sweeping statement that over-generalise which is counter to the facts..It is like saying all Muslims are terrorists because of a 0.0001% of extremists or all Jews are terrorists and criminals because of only 40-50% of zionists or saying all hindus are murderers and rapists...
