Hate to say: "I told you so" -- the rosy propaganda surrounding the ANSF simply did not add up. Plus this is not a one off -- it is a consistent with stories other leading sources are reporting. I guess it must mean send more billions of a corrupt and inept government.

Article here, excerpts below:

Despite the widening of U.S. air support, the White House believes that the war in Afghanistan is tipping in the Taliban’s favor. Speaking on the condition of anonymity to speak frankly about Afghanistan’s deteriorating security situation, a senior administration official called the situation in the country an “eroding stalemate.”

The whole Afghan story after 9/11 was flawed from the start with the wretched adventure of west 15 years ago.

Now ISIS is in Afghanistan. Car bombs are as frequent in Kabul as they are in Baghdad, suicide killers as numberless as they are anonymous. Khunduz is under Taliban siege for the fourth time. The Americans bombed an MSF hospital in the last battle for the city. Adding salt to the injury, the Germans have just announced that they won’t pay more than the original $5,000 to families who lost their loved ones in a German/Nato air strike because the pilot followed the rules. Ghani's Afghan army and police are as impotent as they were when first created by yet more American advisers after 2001. Its a known fact that soldiers turn up their uniforms for a month’s pay then vanish into the desert or some sneak into Pakistan. America has spent trillions and Indian have spent billions to gain sympathy of Afghans. But, in the end, retreating Talibans will win, because they are using guerrilla tactics which in most cases prevail against fighters with sophisticated weapons. History is full such of examples, from the Jewish war against British occupation in 1940, to French in Algeria in 1950s, to Vietnam war in 1960 to the Afghan mujahedeen in 1980s. Western armies with all their massive fire power eventually lost to lightly armed nationalities. But learning from the history is an alien concept when you have so much firepower.

Again, the same old story, The Graveyard of Empires indeed, and the west is never – ever – going to blame itself.

if 500 Special forces troops and Northern Alliance militia could rout the Taliban I see no issue with American air power.
It is as potent as ever

spare me this graveyard of empires crap

british won the 2nd and 3rd Afghan wars decisively. It is the main reason Peshwar stayed with Indian Empire.

At that time Taliban tried to fight a pitched battle and got defeated later they started mobile camps and guerilla warfare.
This area is indeed graveyard of Empires not because of people's hostility but largely due to Topography of area, survival is against nature is tough job,no roads for supply, scarcity of water and harsh weather conditions,to date biggest ISAF and ANA problem is logistics they are never ob time.

guerrila warfare does not work against an opponent who is not going to respect human rights

british bombed kabul in 3rd afghan war. the war ended quickly

But still British Dream of holding kabul and there boundaries upto Amu never materialized due to sheer resistance of Afghan's.You can't kill everyone until you want an evacuated area to populate again with people of you choice.

British never made a serious attempt to conquer Afghanistan in the 2nd and 3rd wars. They wanted a buffer with Russia

They were clever enough to judge that It's sheer foolishness to hold that area which has got nothing of significant value. And also during colonial period those overseas terrorists usse to fight those wars which would lead to earning.Winning an Afghan war or losing was both equally funds draining so they let it go.

If the Soviets or Americans taken the war into Pakistan all Afghan resistance would have collapsed

And in doing that you have to meet a much more bitter, motivated and tough foe.If resistance continues there what next,India,Iran or china.

India, China are smart to avoid such situations
Cannot speak for Iran
