Townsville Airport, in far north Queensland, has teamed up with local therapy animal trainer and provider Sensitive Companions as part of a "pawtnership" for people with a fear of flying.

Chris A Randall from Sensitive Companions will bring a trained therapy dog, Tink the Alaskan malamute, to the airport three days a week for nervous flyers to spend time with her before flights.

Townsville Airport is spending $10,000 on the initiative.

Here is Tink interacting with travellers from Townsville Airport's Twitter feed.

There's growing recognition for the positive effect of therapy animals, although airlines in the US say they've had it passengers trying to bring strange, fake "emotional support" animals, including snakes, spiders and lobsters, on flights.

In February, a woman who tried to take an emotional support peacock on her United Airlines flight, but was denied.

Dogs are so awesome and beautiful.

I don't have a fear of flying, but I would love to encounter a support Dingo.

and lol @ the emotional support peacock. I remember watching coverage of that story.

Whatever works for some folks I guess.

Dingos would rip you apart mate.

Did they ever straighten out that famous case with the parents being blamed for some dingo dragging off their little kid?

What about emotional dogs who travel?

Are dogs fearless when flying.

This is animal rights issue right here.

I know... they're wild animals, not domesticated, and would by no means be supportive.

Just my own personal alternate reality fantasy that I know will never come true.

Yeah, they are cute but most of the time they are vicious imagine a pit bull and Doberman and you get a dingo on steroids.

They don't need an excuse to attack.

Nah but most people in Oz believe it was a dingo that killed the baby.

They are very strong and a 10 month all baby would be easy for them to kill.
