America's Waning Influence: Beijing To Invest $46 Billion In Energy, Infrastructure For US "Ally"

America is no longer an ally anymore, they used Pakistan during the Cold War and War against Terrorism, now since their objectives have completed they don't care about us anymore.. They have made a mess in Afghanistan and dragged us too, now we are suffering the consequences.

Sour grapes. What was initially an alliance turned into a a bitter rivalry. You just know that something is terribly wrong when people have to prove their friendship by illustrating aid graphs. Never mind, Pak should concentrate on its neighborhood. This is why no country should ever do the bidding of another power. We have made mistakes like everyone else, but sacrificed more than our fair share. The Pak U.S. relation is exhausted after years of misunderstandings and mistrust. No amount of aid can cure the exhaustion.

seems we can save a few billions a year if China wants to take over.

heres hoping the CPEC goes smothly and the terrorists in Pakistan don't sabotage it.

US help can not be denied. I would be lying if I say US never helped us. And obviously it was US tax payer who paid for people who did not like them at first place. So thank you people of US, I for one am grateful. But the point is this money could have been spent in better way; more wisely that is.

Aids and grants don't work well. Look at Afghanistan and Iraq? US spent lot more there than Pakistan. Did it change the ground situation much? Trick is to invest and offer trade. Help that nation to help herself. Pakistanis aren't bad with business and manufacturing. Energy crisis and crumbling infrastructure hurt that badly. Instead of losing money US could make money by setting up power projects and infrastructure investments. Give some trade incentives to Pakistani business especially small business and it would make real difference. US also does not loose money, she makes some. This where China has played smarter. They did not give aid or grant, they invested! They will make money and so shall people of Pakistan (hopefully).

^^ That is a huge problem with US foreign policy. Every effort and result is measured in the amount of aid dollars spent. It doesn't work like that in the real world.

You rightly say that instead the U.S. ought to promote trade and invest in tangible projects. Although, why should the U.S. do such a thing when their intentions are entirely different?

actually it has worked for them but not for the receiver.

Pro:
Economic benefits to China 90%, Pakistan 10%
Cons:
Chinese embrace all Balochistan and Taliban terrorism problem of Pakistan that will lead to problem in China also
Pakistan embrace all Chinese bully and exploitation of China and end up in bad taste of relationship

10% is better than zero.

They haven't gained much apart from their short term interests. Also, they have lost the faith of the Pakistani people. They have tried quite hard to regain that trust, but to no avail.

They are frustrated now because Pakistan has started focusing on its own interests. It is evident.

Seriously, after Abbotabad why would US put its money only to get shafted in exchange ?

they wanted exit from region and we gave them safe exit.. indian can raiz but US cant since india is directly involve in terrorism in afghan and in neighbours.. thats why Us still help Pak even china is spending 46 billion dollars in Pak

well, they dont need us yet as they know that terrorism is now our war. if and when they need us the same tactic will work again why?

because pakistani new generation is still uneducated(less than 50% children reach high school) and PML N or PPPP doesnt has education any where on its priority list

Pakistan has done more for the US than any other country would, we've sacrificed our own interests and sparked a civil war in our own country for it.

Which (in hindsight) was probably a mistake.

It's time for Pakistan to only worry about Pakistani interests first. And you'll always find a very strong strategic and economic partner in China.

We are not looking to displace US influence in Pakistan. Only the US looks at the world through a prism of such jealousy, rivalry, and zero-sum competition.

Yep their current generation of leadership still seems stuck in the "Cold War" era.

Like Bush said: "You're either with us, or against us".
