Denying involvement not enough, Taliban should side with govt and condemn the attacks, he said.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar – who has spent much of his life in British politics – lashed out at America, Britain and Europe on Wednesday saying the big powers are involved in terrorist acts in the country, Dunya News reported.
Ch Sarwar said that mere denying involvement is not enough adding that Taliban should side with government in condemning attacks.
Addressing a ceremony to honour soldiers who became handicapped while fighting the anti-state elements, Governor said that sacrifices made by soldiers are a golden chapter of country’s history. We present salutations to martyrs and survivors who made sacrifices for the country, he said.
He said that those who commit acts of terror say US is their enemy yet they target Pakistani forces, police and citizens. He further emphasized that Taliban have to go a step ahead and side with government in condemning attacks if they want negotiations to succeed.
Governor also distributed presents among war veterans.
Government and Taliban have both announced a temporary ceasefire in a bid to farther the dialogue process. Dozens of soldiers and citizens have been targeted in the past few weeks and Taliban had claimed the responsibility of most of those attacks. However, Pakistani leaders repeatedly maintained that peace talks were still a priority to resolve the decade old insurgency.
Following surgical strikes by Pakistan army, Taliban finally announced ceasefire earlier this month and was reciprocated by the government.
