The report said Bangladesh only had 10.4% trained labourers in 2013 while the rest 89.6% workers were untrained
The government will have to make the workforce in the country skilled if it wants to achieve the five to seven year growth targets, a study says.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith unveiled the report titled “Lack of expertise in Bangladesh’s labourer market” at the ministry on Sunday.

Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS)’s report said skill gap was a major issue in the agro-food, construction and RMG sectors.

According to the report, the domestic skill labourer demand will be 72.41 million workers in 2020. Of which, the demand will be 2.91 million in agro-food sector, 4.42 million in construction and 5.98 million in RMG sector.

The report said Bangladesh only had 10.4% trained labourers in 2013 while the rest 89.6% workers were untrained.

Addressing the programme, BIDS Director General (DG) KAS Murshid said: “We will fail to achieve the five to seven year’s growth target if we do not meet the demand of skilled labourers in the RMG, textile, construction and agro-food sectors by 2020.”

He identified the overall skill gap in agro-food sector at 76%, where the scarcity of skilled labourer is 77%, semi-skilled 75%, and unskilled is 75%.

The BIDs DG said: “The RMG sector is short of 119,479 skilled workers, 48,130 semi-skilled and 8,577 unskilled labourers.”

Stating that the study painted a gloomy picture of skill labourers in Bangladesh, Muhith said: “In the current budget, we have taken up a project to create 500,000 skilled officers.

“We will definitely increase number in the future.”

Senior Secretary of the Department of Finance Hedayetullah Al Mamun was also present at the programme.

We will start a lot of dairy farming in Bangladesh then.We will export a lot of cow meat and milk in the international market and cow dung and urine to India for consumption.Skilled cow-cola workers like yourself will also get a lot of work.Win win for both of us.

Unskilled/low skilled labour is a common problem in South Asia.....I'm not sure why our Indian friends are acting so high and mighty here.....because this happens in India....
PhD holders among 23 lakh applicants for peon jobs in UP

34 PhD holders and 12,000 engineers apply for 4th grade job in MP

Postgraduates, PhD holders applying for sweepers, peons' posts in UP

Superpower India: BTech, PhD degree holders queue up to be sweepers

Dear Indians, maybe you should manage your own skills before worrying about Bangladesh.

But making $5 Walmart rags is skilled labour...

Are you a female? Why you always trolling like your Indian online jobless-jacks, troll brother all the time?. One would've thought least a girl from there would have some respect, dignity. Most of your post seems like your direct sis of loafer, nilgiri, and the rest of the online hindutva trolls.

@WAJsal please do something about this shameless Indian who isn't welcome on BD section. Everyday opens anything he can find negative to down BD. He never opens good positive thread nor ever adds anythinf unbias and constructive. This deluded jobless jacks from Hindu-India, polluted our BD section and adding poor bad quality to this good forum of yours.

I get this open forum. But look at the childish, pathetic behaviour from the brainwashed hindutvas here. Always obsessed about trolling and in doing so apparently it's making a name for Bharat (they think LOL). It has to stop because it's just childish, worse than a village uneducated idiot. Do you see any Bdeshis going to their section to open threads daily too to malign them? Indian trolls making this wonderful forum, poor in quality.

@Hasan89 It's a news in Dhaka Tribune.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Skilled labor would be the call center guy providing support and client services.

i am just mean today
Man, you pick the wrong time.

India is not the land of call centers anymore. :undecided:

Have you seen your face in the mirror? LOL. Your own North Indian brothers call you black/toasted, not anyone else.
:lol:If I appear black I don't mind if someone calls me black. But that ain't the case with me and that ain't the thread about.:enjoy:
