Al Jazeera: Bangladesh’s Most Wanted Criminal Operating Network from Budapest

.
Seven more exposes are expected. Stay tuned. :-)

i was cringing hard seeing these guys divulge everything to a hidden camera and a bunch of actors. i dont think my face can tolerate 7 more episodes of cringing.
Today, we don't have the best economy and overall situation, but people have hope, trust and belief in our people; especially in Military.

yeah. at least we have the military going for us.

You Either Die A Hero, Or You Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain"

I have respect of profession and professionalism, but not for whatever other activism they inclined towards.

Gen Niazi was a great military professional and distinguished officer. Alas! how vulnerable a human can be.

Reminded me of Shaytaan! He was once a very pious Jinn. But look at his fate
Yep. The line is very thin between right and wrong

Pushback from R&AW against Hasina's admin warming up to China and fostering ties with Pakistan?

. . .
If I am correct Al jazeera is backed by the Shia muslim Royal family that's kept on a tight leash, that does not dare bite its masters hand.

No gov is perfect even British gov is corrupt prime example in current office is priti Patel and former housing minister.

Why is Al jazeera going on the offensive against bd gov that has brought progress in economic and militarily.

Have you tried attacking the message instead of the messenger? Just because they caught you with your lungi down doesn't mean they're wrong.

Well, the name Pakistan is excluded by BAL govt ? Interesting , isn't it @Avicenna ? :what: :undecided::blink:

But poor jamatis will always remain scapegoat. Alas why did you guys ( JI) make alliance with BNP instead of the holy grail BAL .

Now face the consequence for eternity! 8-)

I personally have nothing to do with Bangladesh other than having ethnic links.

However, I want good for the country and its people.

This recent news is both damning and shameful.

Absolute disgrace.

Actually I was teasing, perhaps you missed it . BAL ministers always blame Jamati Islami and Pakistan together for everything that goes against them , but this time the minister did not blame Pakistan ,but blamed only JI. It's a good sign that maybe BAL is really improving relationship with Pakistan and it's a good sign I hope.

on a sidenote. does Hasina have a successor lined up when she dies? i am sure she believe in dynasty politics, like Bhuttos, Zardaris, Sharifs and so on.
Although people claim that the son of the sister of Hasina may take the seat in future, but I don't think that Hasina is going to appoint anyone as BAL leadership.

Her son Joy doesn't seem to interested to involve in Bangladeshi politics directly , neither her daughter Putul is interested.

Although die hard BAL sycophants want it.

However I believe Hasina won't appoint anyone from her family and if the son of her sister Rehana ( His name is Redwan Mujib siddique Bobby ) get the position, it will be because of internal problem between them . Some say that Rehana is very ambitious , although never want to come under spotlight.

I myself personally believe that Hasina don't want to continue the dynastic politics.

Many people of Bangladesh blame Hasina for everything , but never take consideration her surroundings and without digging deeper.

@Atlas

I got the teasing, however, Pakistan is a non issue.

The rot is deep from within.

That needs to be fixed before any real progress. (Keeping in mind corruption exists everywhere at some level)

It's very sad.

As even among common Bengalis, there are some really high caliber, capable people.

Instead, you have people like this in positions of or associated with those holding power. (the videos tell the whole story)

It's really saddening to see.

yeah. my dad even today always praises Bengalis. he migrated from Bihar to East Pakistan and studied there till June 1971. he always told me when i was a kid to study like the Bengalis study and that he learnt how to truly study from them. he said Bengalis do even the example problems in the textbooks 10 times each.

Well partly agree. Didn't see the entire video , neither English nor Bengali version.

Tbh , I don't entirely believe or entirely reject anything from media, because there are always another side of the coin and we only can see one side always .

We can never see another side , because it always remain hidden from us , neither side bother to show it to us.

Unfortunately now media became the biggest priest and people are supposed to bound to believe in media ,and media always shows one side of the coin.

I know that you and most others won't agree with me ( about two side of every coin ) , but you also can't deny my logic entirely.

I just can say one thing and that is media is the biggest tool of propaganda and war nowadays.

I am not saying that BAL is good , but still I will keep saying BAL is lesser evil , and before creating alternative to the lesser evil , I don't think we should be very serious on such issues. It's very easy for us to judge the situation from our living room after watching some documentary , but reality is different.

But let's agree to disagree here. Thanks for your reply.

Bangladesh documentary implicates top officials in bribery scheme
7 hours ago

An investigative report from Al Jazeera claims that a gang linked to top officials colluded with the country's security forces to sell off lucrative jobs. Dhaka has rejected the reporting as a "smear campaign."

The Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera on Monday released an investigative report that implicates top Bangladeshi officials in a scheme involving passport fraud and abuse of power to profit from government contracts and job positions.

"All the Prime Minister's Men" accuses General Aziz Ahmed, chief of staff for the Bangladeshi Army, of helping to protect his brothers, Haris and Anis Ahmed, who are wanted for the 1996 murder of a rival politician.

The Al Jazeera report, which is the product of a two-year investigation, claims that Haris escaped prosecution in Bangladesh by fleeing to Hungary and Anis to Malaysia. While in Hungary, Haris changed his identity to "Mohammad Hasan," allegedly with the help of General Ahmed.

Once he changed his identity, Haris was able to set up a business and buy properties across Europe, allegedly by funneling money from Bangladesh accrued by a large-scale bribery scheme.

The report claims that Haris made money as a middleman, collecting bribes in exchange for using his connections with Dhaka officials to award plum government contracts to the highest bidder.

The Al Jazeera investigation contained recordings of Haris indicating that the Ahmed brothers have been selling off jobs in Bangladesh's police forces for hundreds of thousands of dollars "in collusion with senior officers."

The recording also implicates the "home minister, the inspector general and the police commissioner" in helping to coordinate bribe payments.

Connection to Sheikh Hasina?
Al Jazeera claims General Ahmed has close connections with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Haris and Anis Ahmad served as the prime minister's bodyguards when she led the then-opposition party Awami League.

The Al Jazeera report claims that Hasina is providing political protection to the Ahmad brothers. It contains a recording of a phone call during which General Ahmed recalls Hasina referring to the brothers as her "mainstay" during an occasion when her life was threatened.

Soon after the report was released Monday, the Bangladeshi government released a statement denying any links between Hasina and Haris Ahmad.

"There is not a shred of evidence linking the prime minister and other state institutions of Bangladesh to this particular individual," the statement from the Foreign Ministry said.

Report 'false and defamatory'
The Foreign Ministry statement also rejected other findings of the Al Jazeera investigation, calling the report "false and defamatory," while claiming it was fed to the broadcaster by anti-Bangladeshi groups and political opponents of the Awami League.

"The report is nothing more than a misleading series of innuendos and insinuations in what is apparently a politically motivated 'smear campaign' by notorious individuals associated with the Jamaat-i-Islami extremist group," the Foreign Ministry said, referring to the Islamist political party that is a rival to Hasina's Awami League.

"Dhaka regrets that Al Jazeera has allowed itself to become an instrument for their malicious political designs aimed at destabilizing the secular democratic government of Bangladesh with a proven track record of extraordinary socio-economic development and progress," the statement said.

Self-censorship?
Local media has so far published only the government response to the documentary. One of the leading local newspapers, The Daily Star, said in its editorial that the reason behind this is the country's Digital Security Act, a controversial law that could be used to suppress free speech.

"We are facing the absurd situation of publishing the government response without publishing what the government is responding to. So far, we have neither carried what the Al Jazeera reported nor any synopsis of it," the editorial said.

"Readers are fully entitled to ask why there is such an absence of similar reporting in the local media," it added, while calling the DSA one of the "most comprehensively restrictive and oppressive laws against the free press anywhere."
