Seriously, its great if the GOI does not want to run a loss making carrier... but why not privatize it?!

To allow private players make more money when the capacity shortages occur. Guess it'll e the right opportunity for Mr Mallaya to start a new airline- there'll be money for everyone in this.

Gap, created by one will be filled by another, If government subsidized carrier is out of picture more will feel comfortable to take a shoot at the business and in long Run good for the Indian Government and people as it will collect taxes but dont have to put up billions for bail out year after year. More competitors mean more choice less price for consumers.

Of course 'long run'. But for several years a comfortable little cash cow for existing private players. If you privatize it then there will be no capacity shortfall even in the short term.

I have no problems with govt washig it's hands off the black hole. That's a no brainer. But private route is the only rational one. Remember that AI had a huge monopoly on several international routes. As a package deal there will be takers. Most domestic players have had very limited international routes because of this monopoly.

I am sure GOI didn't come to this conclusion overnight to shut it down.Private business is in it to make a buck they arent their for yours or my convenience.

If there is a communication flaw it's on the government's side. In any case you can't make mistakes when you reply to parliament

Air India was run by faulty policies, at the time when Indian aviation is rising, It is sad to here bad news about Air India. AirIndia should be given funds instead of going for privatisation.
There are certain areas where privatisation is needed and then there are areas where privatisation not needed.

Railways, Air services and certain organizations which generate more profits if run correctly should be held by Govt. I have no idea why irctc is given to google to run when we have lot of IT talent.

India is not there for the MNC's to reap rewards and profits forever. We need to make sure our companies grow and do what todays companies are doing.
Acquiring the technology,improving our skillset and making our companies capable of giving tough competition to MNC's is the right way.
