State-run Air India plans to resume passenger flights on Boeing 787 Dreamliners on Wednesday (May 15), according to India's NDTV.

Air India's resumption of Dreamliner service will come first on a domestic route between Delhi and Bangalore, according to Dow Jones Newswires. Air India's Dreamliners will begin flying international routes a week later (May 22), civil aviation minister Ajit Singh says.

Singh is quoted by NDTV as saying all six of Air India's 787s should be flying passengers again by the end of May

The airline stopped flying its six Boeing 787 aircraft in January after Dreamliners were grounded worldwide due to battery fire risk.

Air India said in a statement that the pilots testing its 787s since the plane's grounding ended are satisfied with the plane's performance.

Since its launch after delays of more than three years, Boeing's newest jet has been plagued by a series of problems, including overheating of lithium-ion batteries and fuel leaks.

Air India has ordered a total of 27 Dreamliners.
