A good analysis. But, IMO the US Deep State is waning!!! The Deep Nation is getting stronger, and they won't elect the Deep State folks!!! Hopefully, the next President will be a tougher guy than Trump with much less baggage...Whatever happens we have to remember that this is still a very fragile peace agreement. The US deep state, US installed Afghan government and India are not content with this peace deal.
Trump is at odds with deep state hawks in his own government. Fatty Pompeo doesn't want to sign the peace agreement. We have old doggy Mattis barking all over the place. These are all signs that the US is very divided on the Afghan peace deal.
Pakistan needs to be cautious. Trump approached Pakistan and we were willing to help him as much as we could. This doesn't mean everyone is happy with the peace negotiations. In fact it has a lot of opposition. Trump has a different approach on Afghanistan. He doesn't want to invest in a failed project whereas his predecessors were hand and glove with the deep state. The US deep state runs the show in opiumland and not Trump.
The best approach for Pakistan in my opinion would be to continue to aid Trump and watch how things evolve. We have to remember that Trump will be gone. The US deep state will always remain. The US deep state could eventually spoil the deal and we would be back to square one.
Pakistan's relations with the US deep state and by extension the US won't improve/stabilize. We have too many disagreements and our interests simply collide on every level. From nuclear weapons to the Afghan war. From our relationship with China to India. The US doesn't agree on any single point with Pakistan. Our main ally is China and will always be China. That is a fact written in stone.
Afghanistan is a failed US project that has impacted Pakistan adversely for decades. We need to reverse this trend by acknowledging the ground realities. After the peace agreement we need to swiftly do the following:
1. Repatriate Afghan refugees back to Afghanistan.
2. Close the border with Afghanistan and minimize/monitor movement in and out of Pakistan.
3. Focus on CPEC completion.
4. Invest in education and other important areas for the betterment of people of Pakistan.
5. Minimize relations with spoiler nations that have built spying embassies on our soil and pretend to be our friends. Yes, also the ones that beg for their INGOs to spy freely.
