Afghanistan: Indian abducted in Herat Province

Herat: An Indian national was on Monday abducted in the Herat Province of Afghanistan. No group including the Taliban militants has so far claimed responsibility for the incident.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin confirmed the reports in his tweet that read, "Indian national working with an NGO in Herat province of Afghanistan has been kidnapped. R Mission pursuing matter with local authorities."

The worker was abducted from Zena Jan district, said the local officials adding that on Monday afternoon he was visiting the area to assess the work of a project.

This incident comes just days after the attack on Indian consulate in Herat.

Well, you reap what you sow. In spite of the many excellent avenues available to better his own Nation, if he chose to work for an NGO in Afghanistan, one can only marvel at his 'altruism'.

Unless of course, there are a few of our covert resources working there under the garb of various NGOs and he happened to be one of them.

It would be the PARA (SF) who would most likely be sent in for this kind of mission mate. Anyway this is one of the first tests for the Modi Govt with Doval as the NSA let's see how things play out, he promised to be stronger on security matters....

It's irrelevant- he's an Indian citizen. I would like to see this more muscular foreign policy Modi has promised, if this was a French, American or Israeli citizen they would already be up in arms (literally) on this, they would at least have specialists on route (not necessarily shooters).
