RAWALPINDI: The administration of President Joe Biden has assured Pakistan of continued assistance for the common cause of peace in Afghanistan.

The assurance came during the meeting of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa with Acting US Charge d’ Affairs to Pakistan Lesslie Viguerie on Friday.

According to statement issued by the military's media wing, Gen Bajwa hoped that Pak-US bilateral relations will be further strengthened under the new administration.
“Matters of mutual interest, including regional security situation, were discussed during the meeting,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

While assuring the country of US’ continued assistance for the common cause of peace in Afghanistan, the visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to conflict prevention in the region and the relentless support provided to Afghan Peace Process.

US to revive military ties with Pakistan
Earlier, former US General Lloyd J Austin during his confirmation hearing for the post of secretary of defence before the United States Senate Armed Services Committee had said that the US will continue building relationships with Pakistan's military that provide openings for Islamabad and Washington to cooperate on key issues.

Austin recognised Pakistan as an essential partner in the peace process in Afghanistan. "If confirmed, I will encourage a regional approach that garners support from neighbours like Pakistan, while also deterring regional actors, from serving as spoilers to the Afghanistan peace process."

The former US general said he would focus on shared interests including training future Pakistan military leaders through the use of International Military Education and Training (IMET) funds.

"Pakistan will play an important role in any political settlement in Afghanistan," he continued. "We also need to work with Pakistan to defeat al Qaeda and the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) and to enhance regional stability."

This needs to be expanded.

Pakistan has given a lot of sacrifices for peace in Afghanistan and will continue to do so. Both can work together and benefit from each other.

The relationship between the two have always been transactional, from Pakistan's perspective we should get US to invest money in Pakistan's economy specially large infrastructure projects like Dams , improve military to military ties, improve cooperation in social sector , scholarships for Pakistani youngsters.

NSA moeed Yusuf's interview is a must listen!

2/7. Pakistan’s government aims to pursue a bilateral relationship not hyphenated by US’ interest in other regional countries, moving away from the Afghanistan lens we have unfortunately been viewed through historically.

3/7. The Pakistan of today is self-confident and formally positioned as a state centered on an economic security paradigm, offering itself as an economic melting point to consolidate positive global interests – i.e. providing the world economic bases instead of military bases.

4/7. Pakistan does not view its US and China alliances as mutually exclusive, and does not aspire to become part of one ‘camp’. Alternatively, Pakistan can become a conduit for much needed cooperation between the two.

5/7. Our focus is on building developmental partnerships & regional connectivity, not merely seeking assistance. Defeating terrorism within our own borders has been a major success in this direction over past decade. Similarly, peace in Afg is essential for westward connectivity.

6/7. We are dealing with a different India; one that is intolerant, has serious internal tensions, conflict with every single bordering country, growing human rights violations, and takes irresponsible unilateral decision, including in IIOJK.

India is a country that is destabilizing the region, and becoming a liability for anyone dealing with it, including the US.

7/7. The Biden administration and Pakistan have opportunities to work on a range of priority areas of mutual interest – climate change, lasting peace in Afghanistan, & regional diplomacy in the Middle East & beyond to decrease global tensions & restoring the multilateral system.

Unfortunately we have ppl that will quickly jump in american lap at the slightest hint. See this SAPM, he actually lived and worked in the US before becoming SAPM on national security, how on earth can he deal with US? He would want a secure future in US and thus do things accordingly.
We should not just jump to americans, especially not restart the military training. The Americans clearly say that training Pakistani future military leadership is of importance, are we that stupid to see what they seek? What special training they get in US that we cannot provide? There should be zero training and exposure of our future military leadership with others. We should have some slef respect. Trumo abruptly ended those trainings and now we should tell them that we ll see and decide and not start immediately.
We should also make sure to increase our foothold in Afghanistan, bring in more chinese influence and money and make sure india or US or iran have no say in Afghanistan. Pakistan should heavily arm taliban with modern weapons, in case they have to fight for kabul with indian puppies like ghani and saleh. Americans will never redeploy and thus we can be aggressive.

No one is jumping in american lap. Read SAPM's statement - Pakistan's stance for the new US administration is unchanged.

Was US assisting Pakistan in Afghanistan or was Pakistan assisting US in Afghanistan.

The American deep state has one big desire. It is to control the Pakistani army. Once your train and influence generals at higher positions, infiltration becomes easier. The American deep state knows that the Pakistani military controls the proceedings in Pakistan. Without having the Pakistani military on US side the deep state is fighting a lost war. This constant desire to deepen and establish military to military relations cannot be taken lightly. The Americans seem very eager to establish military to military relations ASAP. Even during Trump administration, the US deep state made sure that military to military relations were reinstated swiftly. Despite Trump order to halt military to military programs.

Pakistan should be wary. These programs are meant to destabilize Pakistan. These military to military programs benefit the US deep state. They get an intimate insight into our military officials who serve in critical positions. The US military officials have a unique opportunity to engage, recruit and influence. The US military doesn't hide its intended objective.
