ISLAMABAD:

A report by an Islamabad-based think tank shows that the Afghan Nation Army (ANA) and Nato forces operating alongside the country’s troubled north-west border region have become increasingly hostile towards Pakistan.

In its annual report, the Conflict Monitoring Centre, which scrutinises anti-state violence and the security situation in conflict zones, revealed that 745 cross-border attacks took place from the Afghan side during the year 2012, out of which 371 attacks were carried out either by the ANA or Nato and US forces, while the rest of them were carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and al Qaeda militants hiding in safe havens inside Afghanistan.

The report shows that the situation along the Pak-Afghan border remained tense during the year and despite Pakistan’s reaction to the Salala incident, hostilities from across the border continued unabated.

It says that the deteriorating security situation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Federally Administered Tribal Area (Fata) is a result of tacit support for anti-Pakistan militants provided by the forces active across the border, which include Afghan National Army as well as Nato.

The report further states that border areas along Pakistan, of at least four Afghan provinces, have become launching pads for anti-Pakistan militants of TTP.

Maulvi Fazlullah of TTP Swat chapter is roaming freely in Kunar province, organising his cadres to target Chitral and Dir districts of KP and Bajour Agency of Fata. Militants in South and North Waziristan, Orakazai Agency and Khyber Agency have established their bases in border areas of Nangarhar, Paktia and Paktika provinces. Despite Pakistan’s recent efforts to bring the Afghan Taliban to the negotiation table, armed forces across the border are increasingly becoming hostile to Pakistani interests.

Conflict Monitoring Centre’s data shows that during 2012, Nato and US warplanes and helicopters violated Pakistani airspace some 53 times, and in some cases they bombed as well.

The airspace violation took place six times in January, four times in February, eight times in March, four times in April, nine times in May, six times in June, one time in July, three times in August, five times in September, six times in October and one time in November.

All but one of these violations took place along the Fata border, and one took place in Balochistan.

The year 2012 also witnessed an unprecedented increase in cross-border rocket and mortar attacks by the ANA.

The situation seems to be really getting out of hand. It's getting so chaotic that one is hard-pressed to figure out who's fighting whom!! :cheesy:

Now if the ANA is becoming 'anti-Pakistan' then that is bad news for the PA. One of the main aims of the doctrine of 'Strategic Depth' was to secure Pakistan's Western border with the help of a 'friendly' Afghan government where both the PA and ANA would be having a strategic relationship to counter any Indian threat to Pakistan from the West!

That doctrine seems to be unraveling pretty fast!

Anti Taliban were Always anti-Pakistan. Its not a news...

Thats why Pakistan always support Taliban. Taliban is Pro-Pakistan, Anti-Talibans either Anti-Pakistan or they ignore Pakistan.

i have said it many times ..

This ANA will be used against pakistan after withdrawal but you mock them as rag tag militants

ANA is Anti-Pakistan is not new and doesn't worth discussing, However the Green on Blue attacks was increased significantly in 2012 - that's something strange :P

The ANA has been stuffed with those who despise the Taliban and also dislike Pakistan (despite living off our sympathies for decades).
It will be interesting to see ANA's actions once the NATO/ISAF numbers are diminished post-2014.

We want ANSF to be a bit of a hostile to Pakistan considering the wrong interests of Pakistan in Afghanistan but Pakistan has full authority of adopting necessary strategies on their end. ANSF has remained hostile to Pakistan since 47 there is nothing new in that indeed!

Yes and they are reasons for that. The non pashtun element in particular is hostile because it witnessed the slaughter by Taliban during the 90s and when we wrongly backed the Taliban. The negotiations were not done sincerely after Musharraf took over.

They remember that. The problem is that Pakistan military establishment always looked things in black and white and aways took one side fiercely and openly.

ANA does not have similar intentions for Iran.

And of course India also has played a role when they offered to train the soldiers and officers when US asked them.

Lets see what happens.

These wrong interests are a direct result of AF challenging the sovereign state of Pakistan and not accepting Durand line (in face of blanket acceptance of same border from every international body). What were you expecting, roses?

Government of kabul should recognize durand line, is that too much to ask?

When Pakistan supports Afghan Taliban, what will you expect.

You Indians are dumb. Low IQ. Sorry to say but that's true. Where were the Taliban in 47 when Afghanistan objected to Pakistan in the UN or when Afghanistan attacked Bajur in 60's or supported Baloch militants in the 70's.

@Topic

Well these guys were hostile to Pakistan since 1947. Nothing new. The best part is they can't do anything about their hostility. They can't fight with us. They can't live without hating us. Miserable situation poor fellows are. I would suggest Afghan charas as a quick and shot term remedy for these guys.
