Advanced Munitions Development program Pakistan (AAM) and (AGM)

Pakistan and South Africa signed a defence cooperation MoU on 28th March and thus laid the foundation of Pakistan's Advance Munition Development Program (AMDP). Under this Pakistan will develop (AAM) Air-to-Air Missile and (AGM) Air-to-Ground Missile.

With Pakistan starting work on Project AZM the development of Advance Munition is also in progress for the 5th gen Jet that will be developed under Project AZM. Ra'ad cruise missile and Barq Laser guided missile were stepping stones of this project which were developed by Pakistan. Plus integration of Harpoon missiles on PAF F-16 was also part of it.

The Next missile under this program which is expected is an Air to sea version of Harbah Missile and Air-to-Air missile with South African Mou.

The main purpose of creating this thread is discussion not news on technology Pakistan requires when the outcome of AZM will be delivered. As AZM is indigenous project we will also require indigenous munition for it.

Are you following Turkey learning curve and advancement in Defense sector ? If Pakistan achieve half of that , then we can say safely all of these are facts. Until then it will remain conjectures or fanboy theories.

Turkey is advancing I will agree but Pakistan was focused on different type of advance previously and in those prospects Allhumdallah no one is as advanced as us like missile sector. and Cruise missiles. Plus JF-17 project and integration of Cruise missile on Mirage jets. Armed drones. Pakistan is providing Turkey many technologies if you follow the defence news you can have a idea of what Pakistan is achieving. Pakistan has Nukes and Pakistan also has to keep the delivery systems evolving. So Pakistan's resources are not free for every thing and Pakistani forces are doing more than enough to keep this country safe from many evolving threats.

The best example is Braq missile which is a laser guided missile. Pakistan is going after conventional weapons and battle field weapons rather than strategic weapons now the recent test of Harbah missile was another example of that.

I have a very simple question. Pakistan has project AZM and Pakistan has a MOU with South Africa. Now what is the point of Mou if Pakistan is not going to develop an Air-to-Air missile? Pakistan is not buying a 5th gen from any country that will provide us with a missile as well Pakistan has to develop it so this Mou is for the very reason. As you said we cannot integrate Harpoon on F-16 so can we integrate sidewinder on the AZM?

The MoU is a sign of the South African gov't and Denel being willing - at least in word - to work with Pakistan. Thankfully, the gap between the ZAR and PKR isn't as much as that of the PKR and USD/EUR/GBP, so cost isn't as much of an issue. So, there's some potential (e.g. PAC even singled out the A-Darter as the Block-III's HOBS AAM in 2015). However, South Africa turning its back during the 2000s (to score in India) might still be felt in Pakistan and Pakistan's persistent internal issues are major stumbling blocks. Plus Turkey has also risen since 2010.
