Abu Dhabi firm proposes towing icebergs to the UAE for drinking water

Antarctic Ocean temperature ranges from -2 to 10 c. Red sea temperature ranges from 20 to 30 c. Arabian sea temperature range 20 to 29 c.

Thanks for info. sounds believable... what's the point?

According to Physics, huge amount of energy is required to melt frozen ice.
If they carry their journey in winters, they can bring all the ice bergs they want!
Makes sense ! but I think it will cost more than mineral water.

How about cut it in pieces and store in tanks .
That also makes sense.but we,ll have to wait until it starts practically.

.
Very wrong approach . Stop playing with nature. Enough damage is done by human being.

Simple physics will not permit transportation as temperature difference is to high. It will melt for sure.
I believe they will be using some methods which will delay the melting of ice.
I am very interested to know what it is.

Fairly complex proposal , the harm outweights the benefits as regional weather change can bring changes in Global Jet stream in region

This would be seen as a negative from Weather , and Preservation of existing world ecosystem prespective

Seems more reasonable to send their Ship to Antartical to break iceberg and then turn it into water and bring it back in Ship

Change in weather parttern / Monson rain system etc would be looked at in a negative light

An idea tha twas floated in 60's/70's to KSA for fresh water, but the big question then and now is how much of the iceberg would be left by the time it reaches the destination after being towed thousands of miles in warm waters?

UAE plans to drag an iceberg from Antarctica to provide drinking water and to change the climate balance in the region.

An iceberg could provide enough water for a million people over five years, at the UAE that is at risk of droughts over the coming years.

The Abu Dhabi-based eco firm plans to drag the iceberg, containing more than 20 billion gallons of water from 5,500 miles, to bring it to Fujairah.
